A slowed down version of the replay showed that Hartnell was trying to go shoulder to shoulder but made contact with Hedman's head. It still should have been a couple games, IMO. But with Hedman not sustaining an injury and Hartnell being a decent player then I can't say that I'm shocked.

If memory serves Hartnell would be a repeat offender. So I'll choose not to assume he was trying to go shoulder to shoulder and accidentally hit the head of a 6ft6in guy that was not bent over when the score was 5-3 with 5 mins left.

Also while he may not be long term injured he did miss the balance of the game so there was lost time.

I think this should have been reviewed.

As as I type this Philly is doing the same crap to the rangers while down 3. Dirtbags!

Funny, Hartnell cheap shots Carcillo and then waits for his guys to come in before he acts like a tough guy. Someone needs to get a hold of him and give him a nice beating one game. It's sad to watch.

Dan Clearly the other day elbowed a guy in the face and didn't get a suspension either. Maybe Shannahan is on vacation.

The extent of the injury is irrelevant; it was a direct hit to the head. Also, who's to say what the extent of the injury really is? As we're discovering, there's a lot more to repeated bumps to the head, even seemingly minor ones, than we've been led to believe.

BTW, I'm still wondering why Malone got a double-minor for Roughing. They were both willing participants.

It's a new rule that the ref instituted, if blood is drawn by a fighter bashing another one's head in its a double minor.
Corollary: This only applies if penalty is to a player from the hated sunbelt.
