Some of the MLS academies do regularly place kids with college programs, but nothing is a guarantee. Perhaps they should be like Canadian junior hockey programs and at least try to make an associates degree a part of the package deal.

FWIW, the scuttlebutt is that a loan at this time is unlikely. After the season, though? I'm not sure Pity's future in Atlanta is all the bright, given that he and DeBoer don't seem to entirely get along. DeBoer has continually commented on Pity's lack of match fitness, which I can only assume is an opinion he's cemented because of Pity's training habits (or lack thereof).

One of the main difference between DeBoer and Tata is that DeBoer is much more of a disciplinarian. Tata used to cut the players slack if they got out to the training pitch a few minutes late, for instance. DeBoer's much stricter.

Gotta admit, I looked up how to watch the womens leagues after this world cup. Turns out it's free on Yahoo. Definitely plan on checking games out. Really enjoyed watching womens over mens soccer for whatever reason.

You don't get the amount of simulated injuries in the women's game that you do in the men's. There's some of it, but lord every time someone gets the slightest knock in the men's game they go down like they've been felled by an assassin's bullet.

Except, you know, that USA/Mexico game that actually was every bit that physical and nasty (which is why I love when USA and Mexico play).

I think the point is that the corporate community in the United States and the entities that run our sports leagues need to make a more conscientious push to establish revenue streams in women's sports as a way of creating the economic environment necessary to begin to increase the salaries of women who are athletes. They've been overlooked to this point and you can make the argument the moment is demonstrating a certain amount of pent up or emerging demand. Truly, other than the NBA and what it did years ahead of anyone else in establishing and subsidizing the WNBA, has there been any real leaders in the sports community on this front?

I'd really like, for instance, Arthur Blank to buy a women's league franchise and a la some of the big clubs in Europe establish a women's team under the same Atlanta United brand. Have them play the bulk of their matches where ATL UTD2 play, to start, but allot a certain amount of Mercedes Benz Stadium special matches such as double-headers so fans can get a taste of both the men's and women's teams in one event.

I'd be real curious how pay is these past couple years. If the mens team who failed to make the tourney still get paid more in bonuses than the women in salary, then they have a point.
