I chuckled sadly at the fake power forwards shade. I'll readily admit that Killorn has been my (and others) personal whipping boy (or kick-em dog, in bpmb parlance) for the last two seasons, but sweet merciful jeezis the guy plays soft for a supposed power forward. Apparently he does all the little things well, like falling down in the corners, being slow, being an overhyped PKer, and being basically useless for all but 3 weeks a year. So much leadership though.

Would have loved to have Ferland, but we all know Coop would have just played him sparingly on the fourth line (see treatment of: Erne, Adam; Miller, JT vs. Palat, Ondrej; Killorn, Alex).

Is it time for training camp yet?

He had 54.2 Corsi-For% (very good) and +8 differential on his takeaway to giveaway ratio which is also solid. His contract isn't great but he isn't the liability everyone makes him out to be as long as he is used correctly.

Trade:

The Blackhawks have acquired forward Zack Smith from the Senators in exchange for forward Artem Anisimov.

Chicago saves $1.25 million on the cap.

Anaheim signs DelZatto to a one year contract. .

There are minor aspects.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/...-exchange-neal

But the question everyone is asking is why the hell would Calgary saddle itself with the worst contract in the NHL just to be immediately rid of a guy they could have offered up to Seattle next year?

I’m sure Edmonton was like, “You’ve got a deal. Thanks!!”

So my first thought was that "Oh, Lucic must be up pretty soon, and Oilers are taking a flyer that Neal just didn't mesh with the Flames since that is one off year out of like 11." That was until I saw Lucic is signed through 2023. I mean, I guess you might get a 3rd rounder out of it (not sure on the conditions), but man, that looks ridiculous.

And to make a trade like that with your rival of all teams, too.

The conditions for the 3rd rounder being sent to CAL: James Neal has to record at least 21 goals and Lucic scores at least 10 fewer goals than Neal.

I really hope this condition turns into a regular thing.
