How sad is it when hockey has become about as tough as baseball and basketball? Well, minus the little prick agitators, who the players aren't allowed to touch, even if they blind side a player or hit them from behind.

Here's to Matt Cooke ringing Vinny's bell again, and nobody answering.
Enforcers are dead in the new NHL. They are a waste of money and roster space.

Is that why almost 95% of the other NHL teams have one?

The way of enforcers policing the game is gone. Enforcers only fight each other. When some little prick like Cooke, Avery, or Ott does something stupid, they never fight the enforcers. Instead the enforcer fights another enforcer. That accomplishes nothing.

Why do the enforcers sit during the playoffs?

I completely agree, hence why I said I wished the league would go back to the way it was. A guy like Cooke is going to hit a guy like Vinny AGAIN, and nobody will do ANYTHING about it.

Because the league sucks, and is a shell of it's previous self.

For starters, they need to eliminate the instigator rule.

Default enforcers

i do not think enforcers are gone, but it is a bit different now. When someone knocks out you best player you have to retaliate against that person by hitting him as hard as possible every time he comes near the puck and then doing the same to their best player. Not Illegal hits but legal hits. If anything go back and watch this years Cup finals and you saw a lot of hitting, legal, and a lot of guys getting smashed to the boards. When Cooke returns to Tampa he needs to be lined up by everyone and he should be hit as many times as possible until he no longer wants to come on the ice. And then take a run at Ovechkin, but legally.

I like Ovechkin and hate Cindy Crybaby, so this lil tidbit works out well, Cooke signed with Pittsburgh I believe

But either way, teams need to fear retribution of some kind if they go after the better players.
