Lee's contract breaks down at $1M this season and $1.3M the following season.

Great analysis Pete, now if Larry Robinson would just drive over from Plant city to coach them, but doubt the devils would let him go.

Can anyone please explain this strategy?

Are they afraid of having the D tied up, following through on a hard check, and being unable to break out in case we get a turnover? I thought checking was what caused those turnovers...

It's sort of like the anti Brian Burke strategy, IMO. The staff would rather have the D focused on being in position and removing the puck from the opponent as opposed to hitting them.

That's not to say that they look down upon or discourage physical play. But, having played for many years, I feel confident saying it's a tool to keep their minds focused on position as opposed to taking runs at guys and getting out of position half of the time.
