Just feel Erne was holding up some of young prospects at Syracuse. Not real sure how NHL proceeds in handling calls in playoffs next year. Lots of chatter about need for more offense in playoffs and allow stars to perform. NHL loves the speed. Most rule changes over last several years have been aimed at increasing scoring. Now include the playoffs.

That chatter exists every year, and it always equates to squat at playoff time.

Yzerman is building his organization depth as we all know his MO.

I think its a win win. You always like to see a higher draft pick in return.

It's not just the officiating, players try harder in the postseason. Pittsburgh won several championships without a deep D, or an amazing goalie, and without a big/physical group of forwards.

The difference was their star players produced when the time and space evaporated. We are ridiculously dependent on the time and space the power play gives us, that needs to change if they are going to stick to their philosophy of skill over size.

Agreed....I Love our team, but when playoffs roll around, we seem to be a bit soft...Stammer, Kuch and Point will be paid to carry the load. So far, they are not playing in the playoffs like they need to for us to see the Cup raised.

The problem is that they played last regular season like they had a point to prove ... except when it was actually the real time to prove it. Nobody gives a rat’s twat what they do in the regular season. I’d prefer they save some $ for the trade deadline and use the regular season to further evaluate kids like Verhaege, Stephens and Volkov. Maybe one of them gets traded for a nasty, top-9 tone-setter.

With Bertuzzi on the Wings, they can now have a Bert and Erne line combination

It sounds like Erne asked to be traded to get an opportunity to play in the top 6. Whether he will get that opportunity in Detroit remains to be seen.

Not sure I like the deal, where do we find a decent power forward? How are we going to get through the holding and squeezing during the playoffs. I agree with Bolthed, they can win all they want during the regular season but it is the playoffs that count. Unless the officials actually call penalties in the playoffs like they do in the regular season, which is wishful thinking, we don’t have someone who can power through and force the issue , although with Shattenkirk and McDounagh we may have two who can push back at least on defense.

They should be able to get a cheap rental at the deadline that would have more playoff experience. Also, perhaps Stephens can make the team and be that type of player, it is time for us to see what he can do. Erne was big but it didn't seem to me he played a heavy game (and certainly didn't in the playoffs).
