Default NHL Game Night: 11-27-19 Blues at Lightning

Valiant effort against defending champs squandered.

STL-4
TB-3

Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed 4 goals on 33 shots for the loss. The difference in this game was goaltending. Flat out. The second Blues goal was a softie and the subsequent two Blues goals were both shots Andrei got a piece of but allowed to go through him. You hate to finger point, but this one's on Vasilevskiy.

First Period
NO SCORING

Second Period
3:53 TB Kucherov (9), (Point)
5:31 STL Sundqvist (7), (Barbashev, Bouwmeester)(SH)
8:40 STL Sundqvist (8), (Barbashev, Bozak)
11:39 TB Cirelli (6), (McDonagh, Kucherov)

Third Period
8:21 STL Sanford (3), (Barbashev, Bozak)
11:07 STL Schenn (13), (O'Reilly, Schwartz)(PP)
14:23 TB Point (8), (Kucherov, Shattenkirk)(PP)

Anthony Cirelli was the game's second star.

This was a tough one to take. Even without the injured Steven Stamkos and the suspended Erik Cernak the Lightning played well enough to get at least a point tonight, but the goaltending betrayed them. Possession stats were good. Physicality against a Western Conference team was ok. But... Vasiy can play better. Vasiy must play better.

Box score and extended statistics from NHL.com.

Since there was no GDT, I’ll put my comment here.

Is every town subject to the wild ups and downs as this one after a win or loss? Last night, I read that we should go into sell mode. A guy next to me on the way out is saying that we should trade Hedman because he’s soft and that we should bring up Witkowski. “Who do we have on this team that’s tough like Witkowski?” Um, Schenn, he’s Witkowski with some talent.

I thought they played an even game with the Blues. The Bolts, I thought had the better of the chances. Lost it on a short handed goal, a 5-3 goal and an inability to get more than one on our PP. I forgot, Bennington was outstanding.

Can’t use the loss of Stamkos as an excuse when they were missing Tarasenko. It was a good, entertaining game. Both teams played hard, both teams made some mistakes and their goalie made 1 more save than ours.

Losing like that is disappointing, but I came away feeling good about our effort, tactics and chances.

Yes they are. Just listen to nhl radio and how the radio announcers talk about toronto.

Yeah no need to panic about this one. I really liked our fight. It's just Vasi that let us down. I'm a bit worried, but he's too good and talented to slump all season like this... I think.

88 will be better. Bolts really look more like a team this year. Need to be on fire in April, May and June. Just get in!

If Vasiy was really sharp, three of those goals don't go in, IMO.
