While the Melrose thing still bothers me, the thought of OK and Len camping out in players' front yards in little pup tents and then springing up and knocking on the door the minute June 30 turns into July 1 is really funny, and encouraging.

(Note to Hoek: This would make an ideal Photoshop.)

Default good vibes

yeah, I like the way they are talking and that they want to assure the fans of what their intentions are for the team. Both obviously want to win a Cup and both appear to want to bring UFA's in to help the team. I like the family thing statement- but I would expect no less from Oren, especially after drafting Carle. I also am not sure about the melrose hiring, but again, will reserve judgment- which I think is only fair. i like that they want to walk the stands and talk with the fans- good for them. Well Welcome to Tampa Oren and Len.

Here's the latest update from EE of that Q&A--it's a little longer. It'd be sweet if they do a fan Q&A like the way Feaster did a while ago. Maybe they will after July 1st fury is over.

Today Barrie and Koules told us that Vinny is rehabbing just fine. They said he has a full range of motion and is 2 to 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

Cool, I was thinking more along the lines of Ovechkin, for Vinny maybe 10 years @ 10M. If they can get him for 8-8.5/yr, that's going to seem like a bargain in 5-10 yrs. The thing I don't like about 7 yr deal is it leaves him a UFA at 35, still some damn good hockey maybe left if healthy, and the dollars may not be there. I don't want to see him do the standard thing and go finish his career in a different sweater...or two

Something tells me they're going to do right by Vinny and he'll be happy enough about that, getting the C and not having Torts to tiptoe around that he finally shifts to his next gear - look out, 60+ goals totally possible starting this season - wait'll we see who else we're getting

The one thing I remember from the press conference was the comment that Vinny would be a member of the Lightning for the next 10 years.

I got the impression that the deal is done - that it is for 10 years and that they are just waiting for July 1 to sign it.

Sounds good, and that's from Bob McKenzie, I'll take his word for it. EE in yesterday's blog said he had heard 9 years also, but he said it might not be announced until mid-July.

*cue Habs fans saying "we didn't want him anyway"*
