Somewhat under the radar but USMNT has looked pretty good under Berhalter already. Yes it wasn't the strongest opponents but they just looked way more confident and like they knew what they were doing. Feeling optimistic now after 3-0 and 2-0 wins over Panama and Costa Rica.

Gold Cup will be the first real test. I watched some of both US games and they looked... meh. But Zardes isn’t a real #9 and that is nowhere near the US A team.

In Atlanta's second preseason game, they clubbed Tijuana 6-1. Josef had 4 goals. Barco and Villalba each had singles.

Also, the team did officially sign Florentin Pogba, 28 year old older brother of the good Pogba. Not sure how he's going to fit in with United. He's big as a house and supposedly decent with his feet, but on his tape he looks very lumbering. Not sure that works all that well with the 3-man back line that DeBoer favors. Doubt he's a first choice in the lineup, though.

Atlanta’s season starts tomorrow at 10 pm in CCL at the Costa Rican champs.

Last week there were strong rumors Nagbe was trying to engineer a trade to Columbus. He’s staying put for now and they’re playing it off like a personal matter, but I bet he’s gone in the summer window.

And Atlanta lost the first leg 3-1. So, they either win the second leg 2-0 or more or it's a very short first run in CCL.

Saprissa, right?

Any MLS team that gets a remotely tough draw at the start of CCL now is probably gonna go out right away. Their fitness isn’t going to be there and whatever new players they have won’t know what they’re doing.

Atlanta beat the dog out of Herediano 4-0 tonight to advance in CCL on aggregate 5-3. They had the score to 2-0 just nine minutes into the game in just an amazing display of willpower, skill, and pace. MLS teams should be crapping their pants when they see that tape. Atlanta looks like they may be even more capable of going full Death Star when they want to this season.

Next round of CCL features the two betting favorites for the tournament: Atlanta and Monterrey.

Another horrible first leg for Atlanta with a 3-0 loss in Monterrey. Gonzalez Pirez with a dumb penalty in the first half to get the ball rolling, then they let it get out of hand near the end. Gotta say I'm not very impressed with De Boer at the moment.

I didn't think LGP deserved a foul on the call the penalty was awarded on, but honestly it could've been 3-0 or 4-0 after the first half alone, so it kind of doesn't matter. DeBoer seems stubborn in his approach and I'm not sure he has the horses to play the formation he wants to. He definitely didn't last night with Gressel hurt and Bello sitting on the bench. Ambrose is bummy and Shea has only been the good Brek Shea in one of their four matches thus far (and that's the one they won).
