And Arthur Blank has no fear of cracking open his checkbook.

It remains to be seen if Atlanta will improve any defensively, but on paper they're the Death Star up front. Martinez at striker. Barco (or Almiron) on one wing and Villalba on the other. Almiron (or Barco) at central attacking midfield getting fed by Nagbe, Gressel, and/or Carmona from the defensive midfield. Carleton, Vazquez, and Williams coming off the bench as attacking options, too (and they might be able to start for a few MLS teams).

They re-signed Garza and Larentowicz, they already had Pirez in the fold, and they signed Franco Escobar out of Argentina, too. My guess is that's their back line with Parkhurst first off the bench at center back and young Venezuelan national Jose Hernandez they signed in the offseason being first off the bench out wide back. That looks like it might be better than last year, but it remains to be seen.

To be honest, with Atlanta's skill in the middle of the field and up top there's no reason to invest beyond average MLS defense at the backline.

Sure, they're gonna give up goals but that team is built with the sole idea being "We will score more than you". Also, good luck getting the ball away from them once they've established their rhythm.

Fox Sports says a deal for Barco is apparently done.

Landon Donovan set to come out of retirement to join Liga MX's Leon

LOL I thought this was a joke when it first broke on Twitter a few days ago. WTF? I might actually have to watch LigaMX for the first time now.

Atlanta United finally made the Barco signing official today in the midst of the annual MLS Superdraft.

The United beat reporter teased the team may have one more signing yet to come this offseason. No idea who that will be. The team probably still needs a right back, though.

Lol a rumor now that Almiron might go to my Boca Juniors, but that's pretty absurd since there's no way they'd pay more than Europe for him.

I can tell you none of the local interviews with Eales or Bocanegra has indicated anything other than Almiron will be in Atlanta and will still be a focal point of the team. They said the whole reason they got Nagbe was to link up from the defensive midfield to Almiron so he can distribute the ball on the attack. Eales also confirmed yesterday that they expect to use Barco off the left wing spot that Asad used to inhabit, and their plan is that Barco will be the guy who can break teams down dribbling if they try to logjam the box/park the bus to defend against Atlanta’s speed up front.
