Itís still .98 so itís going to take time. There were 9,446 new cases. So the number of new cases for each successive generation only decreases 2%.

So unless it drops more, itís going to be above 5,000 for many weeks. Whatís causing it to drop is the mask policies in the big box stores and the bars being closed.

But if the schools open ....

Yeah, and the weather turning in the Fall is also looming on the horizon.

You may have read that Trump is saying that he saved the suburbs from low income housing and that suburbs no longer have to worry about low income housing being built in their communities.

Truth? He did nothing today. Nothing he said was factual. I’ll give you the whole story - if I bore you stop reading.

The Federal Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 (the first bill signed by Gerald Ford) established the Community Development Block Grant, the program I administered for 43 years. Included in that law was a requirement that recipients (large cities and states) “affirmatively further fair housing.” What did that mean? Beats the hell out of me. For 30 years it was there and if you passed out posters and recognized fair housing month, HUD said you were in compliance with the law.

Then in 2006, Westchester County was sued for not affirmatively furthering fair housing. HUD was asked what a county had to do to comply and HUD said, beats me. So the courts ordered HUD to establish standards. They did, we all had to develop 3-4 page plans saying what we were going to do, and life went on. Then Texas was sued for placing all their low income tax credit units in low income areas. SCOTUS ruled that this was illegal and now state agencies have to place about half their units in areas that were not predominantly low and moderate income.

The Obama Administration looked at the Bush standards and expanded them to a plan that was about 40 pages long. Every local government objected to this plan that would take about 6 months to prepare. The Obama Administration put the plan on hold and the Trump Administration deferred the deadline until 2022. Now he has canceled the need for local governments to do the expanded plan.

But that’s all he did. He’s claiming that the suburbs won’t have low income housing built in their areas. No - the SCOTUS opinion still stands. The law requiring that local governments affirmatively further fair housing is still on the books and local governments still have to to a fair housing plan. All that changed is that local governments don’t have to do a lengthier plan.

I'm all for him continuing to base his entire strategy on trying to scare suburban women and old folks about black people coming to get them, because polling shows it's so low on those voters' agendas these days it's ridiculous. Go ahead and double down on the racism, champ, it's one of the reason educated white folks in the suburbs can't stand him to begin with.

Every day that Trump doesn't right the ship by messaging better on COVID-19 and the economy is another day of the window closing on him to try to cut into, once you allocate undecideds, what is probably a touch over a 10% lead for Biden nationally in a year where now the stat geeks are saying Trump may need to get within 2% of Biden to have a chance to win the Electoral College. Mail in voting in Pennsylvania, for instance, is just 47 days away. Michigan starts early voting in 52 days. And if you held the election today in those two states, it would not surprise me to see Biden win Michigan by a touch over 10% and Pennsylvania by 8.5% (hence why Trump's campaign may be writing off Michigan early).

And, oh by the way, nestled within those next 50 days is the announcement of Biden's VP and the Democratic Convention, which are two high media saturation events that should give Biden some bounces of coverage and enthusiasm which probably burn up another 10 or so days of that window.

Geez, Texas ended up reporting over 300 deaths at days end. Hopefully this is the peak in Texas and Florida soon and it finally starts decelerating.

Bidenís VP selection and the Obamaís on the election trail will take any wind out of the grabberís sails for a month at least.

If there are elections.

Trump tweets saying the November election should be delayed because of potential fraud from mail in voting. He has already placed his Gestapo in democrat states.

"Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the rule of law procedures, and cult of personality"

And Trump has now checked all the boxes.

Interesting contrast to his comments from 4 months ago when Democrats wanted to push the Wisconsin primary back until there was a plan for covid. This might be the closest thing we've gotten to Trump admitting that his covid response has failed.

Got it attending a Trump rally which defied all social distancing measures.
