(Only 6 pps the entire series were awarded to the best pp team in the league).

Either the officials have decided amongst themselves that this is the standard or the league has told them to back off. Either way, the league has the ability to say this isn’t the standard we want to see and both change it and weed out the worst of the bunch.

What’s scary is that these are the finals. These are the best officials the league has. Supposedly, the others are even worse.
I don't disagree the difference of rules. But it sure looks like the league saw that outrage, then told the refs to swing back the other way, and it just led to mass confusion. Go look at the 2nd and 3rd rounds. The PPs skyrocketed. It also doesn't help that the only refs called out for bad calls were the ones that were overly cautious about a potential head shot (see Vegas). I honestly can count on 2 hand the number of periods I've watched since round 1, and I bet at least half of those were Columbus/Boston until I turned off due to Millbury.

I'm curious how NBC and NBCSN's rating were for each round, and for the Finals. If there is a precipitous drop off because of the better skilled teams being eliminated due to the change in how the game is called, maybe that is what it will take for the NHL to enforce the same rules in the playoffs as they do in the regular season.

I was a level III USA hockey ref several years ago. Had I not called the slew foot last night during one of my men's or youth games, that game would quickly, and I mean quickly escalate out of control. You just set a precedent for the rest of that game. Now how consistent are you going to be?

I am much more disappointed with the individual referees themselves. They are professionals. They work very hard, study the game. Go to (or conduct) numerous clinics, classroom sessions, study the rule book, watch video of situations.
There has to be a huge amount of personal integrity and pride in the job you do. It is concerning that this is the best crew the NHL has?

They were probably awful because nearly all their hobby horse teams missed the playoffs (Chicago, Detroit, Philly, NYR) or went out in Round 1 (Pittsburgh, Washington, you could maybe argue the Lightning too). The only bankable ratings team left was the Bruins because people hate watch them.

Ivan Barbashev suspended for one game for an illegal check to the head on Johansson. No penalty was assessed on the play as the NHL officials continue to demonstrate what is, in my opinion, total incompetence.

Nice adult behavior right there.

With how much that beer probably cost, he's insane to throw it on someone.
