Friedman summarizing the new CBA proposal and 1 question.

Four years added onto two remaining seasons; 20 per cent escrow limit for players in 2020-21; somewhere between 14-18 per cent in 2021-22, with a hope of getting into single digits after; salary cap of $81.5 million for the next two seasons, and $82.5 million in 2022-23; a 10 per cent player “deferral” next season (which includes July 1 signing bonuses due next week), where players will get that money back in the future when escrow is lower; and a mechanism to make sure teams get paid in full from the 50-50 split over the length of the deal.

One thing I’ve struggled understanding is what this deferment means to a team’s cap situation. Some sources indicated they thought this would give teams extra room, but another countered by saying he understood it “counted in the year earned.” So, still waiting for clarity on this.

Me: It will be interesting to watch which, if any, players opt out of playing and how that impacts both the tournament and the players relationship with the team. What if Price, for example, refuses to play because Montreal has little chance of winning the cup and much more to gain with the #1 pick?

Congrats to Rick. Well deserved, to be sure.

Man, I'm gonna miss his play by play. A consummate professional and one of the best in the league by a country mile.

The National Hockey League says a total of 26 players have reported testing positive for the new coronavirus since voluntary workouts began June 8.

Monday's update includes four additional cases among those tested at team facilities, to go along with the 11 announced June 19. The league says it’s aware of 11 other players testing positive outside the voluntary workout protocol.

Not in the same league maybe, but I thought John Kelly was pretty good.

@TSNBobMcKenzie

Barring any last-minute complications, and we have seen some of those (Vancouver and Las Vegas), the two NHL Hub cities will be Edmonton and Toronto

The NHL will return to the Olympics if a deal can be cut with the IOC.
