No one in the AHL is ready. We saw that at the end of the season. Even SY said that as did many hear. Then look at this last signing. Do you think they will pay someone $550,000 to play in the AHL? I say no as they feel Helenius is ready to serve as a backup while the others are not. Do you give them a shot at camp.........YES. But for now you are looking at Garon/Helenius to start the season. If you want to make the tandem better you move Garon and find a replacement for him.

capgeek indicates that Helenius is NOT exempt from waivers. I didn't think he was. But, I still haven't gotten confirmation from the organization.

IMO, if the organization knows Helenius is not exempt from waivers, then my speculation is that (a) they have him penciled in as backup, or (b) option to sign and trade as part of an acquisition for a Bernier-type goalie-of-the-future.

I think it is high risk to try to push Helenius through waivers. Some team like Columbus would surely jump on him.

Garon could be the trade bait. Lindback/Riku the Marc Denis / Dan Ellis tandem under the Franz magic wand with the Waffle boys at the blue line.

We need a defensive coach and two defensive players to push Brewer and Hedman down a notch.

Brewer because he needs to play fewer minutes with the bad back and Hedman because he needs time for the game to slow down and prepare for his contract year to shine for the organization.
