Mankins retired and we released Bruce Carter. That leaves about $60 Million in cap space. Will be interesting to see how Licht handles it.

Gotta think that makes signing Doug Martin academic.

One would think, but the Bucs aren't blinking and either Martin has asked for something ridiculous like $10M per or he and his agent have assured the Bucs that they will come back with their best offer and give us a chance to match. Otherwise I see no reason why we'd let him hit free agency. Can't be making a habit of letting our best players walk away.

I think there was some rumor that he wanted $8 million/year. They definitely aren't going to overpay, but someone (Oakland) might. I understand the hesitation but a good running game is needed to help make Jameis improve each year.

Sounds like Martin is staying with the Bucs on a multi-year deal worth around $7 million a year.

Excellent! I do think running backs are overrated but that's not too crazy a number.

I like Martin, but that is a high amount for a soon to be 28yo small guy who has had 2 good years in a 4 year career. 4.5 - 5.5 would seem more appropriate.

Bucs officially signed Martin to a 5 year deal worth $35.75 Million (15 million guaranteed)

They also signed offensive guard JR Sweezy to a 5 year deal worth $32.5 million to replace Mankins
