Default Martin St. Louis to NYR (updated) done deal

Felt this deserved its own thread. Bunch of weird, vague tweets from Boomer Esiason of all people has Twitter in a tizzy that this deal, or something like it, is imminent.

https://twitter.com/7BOOMERESIASON

"Its coming and it will be huge. Surprising, shocking, inevitable, and all about business. $$$ #NHL #tradedeadline"

Not going to comb through all the interactions but apparently it's a 1-for-1 deal, team in the East.

He also tweeted "Marty, Marty , Marty in a good way? Hard to believe." but this was on Friday, well before this rumor-mongering began.

Nothing says it is our Marty or even indicate that. For all we know it could be Brodeur.

There were additional comments about it being offense-related and a current Olympian. Vague as it is, if you do a Twitter search it's a burning hot rumor right now.

I see no reason why it would happen while Tampa is playing well, but truth is stranger than fiction.

Since it's dealing with the Rangers and an Olympian. I think it's pretty obvious he's talking about Ryan Callahan. His name has been hot on the trade deadline for the past month and NY doesn't want t pay him the 6.5 million a season that Callahan wants. But I agree I see nothing saying that Marty is going to be traded at least not from a reputable source.

No, there's not a reputable source who has named names and I'm not claiming such. Not even Boomer himself said a name, he'd lose whoever his lead was forever. But a lot of people are piecing it together and make it out to be Marty, one way or the other.

Of course, the ones bringing the Kostka claim into it are a bit too much.

It is pretty random though. I actually kind of hope the deadline is exciting this year. The past couple seasons have been average. Though I'm not advocating that excitement being a Marty trade . If Yzerman traded Marty I think the Lightning fan base would tear the forum to pieces lol.

The rumors are interesting but I can't see us moving Marty for Callahan only to pay Callahan more than Marty is making, they MUST have a extension in place if this is going down. If not, I would be shocked with Yzerman.

If Marty is traded I'll be upset but no one is untouchable...

Sounds more like Brodeur, since that would be more "hard to believe" for Rangers fans and that's the Marty they're far more familiar with.

I can't believe we're going off of what some random ex football player is saying anyway.

It would be a bigger shock, but would make no sense with Talbot being a decent backup and Henrik locked down. Even if it's to try and get him on a playoff team for his last season, you're telling me that no one offered something better than a favor for Cally?

Very.... intriguing.

If this actually happened... what's the thoughts on it? If it's a straight up one for one deal, i'd have to think Marty would've had to request to be moved. That's the only thing that would make sense for a quick trigger trade like this.
