This world cup has seemed loaded with upsets so far. Argentina is in huge trouble.

Tata takes this team to two finals. Sampaoli can barely qualify and can't get out of group stage. The man is a fraud.

Get ready for Josef Martinez wearing the mask after breaking his nose scoring a goal in Atlanta's last match.

Wow, three seconds into this broadcast and it's already vividly clear we're getting Fox's D team broadcasters with anyone good over in Russia for the World Cup.

Former USF and Rowdies goalie Jeff Attinella with a fantastic game to hold ATL to a point.

If there's one thing Argentina does well it's drama. Whew! Thank God they pulled that one out of the fire. France haven't been terribly convincing so there's a chance if we keep playing in a comfortable setup.

With the chances he had, most games Martinez would've had a hat trick.

Darlington Nagbe left with an abductor injury and they said today he'll be on the shelf for 2-3 months with it. Atlanta still had an open spot on their roster from Carmona going home to Chile, so...

Today they just signed 23 year old midfielder Eric Remedi from the Argentine club Banfield. He'll be available to suit up after 7/10. And if Hoek doesn't have one of those King Peach kits yet, I'm shocked.

Quote:
Remedi is a bullish, combative central midfielder who excels at breaking up plays from the opposition. Last season he averaged nearly five interceptions per match, demonstrating a keen sense of anticipation and ability to read the attack before it even happens, as well as nearly nine ball recoveries and nearly ten defensive duels per match. He’s energetic, always ready to press the defense and constantly involved, causing havoc for his opponents and breaking up play. But that’s not to say he’s just a tackler –– he has plenty of skill on the ball as well. Particularly adept at long passes, Remedi is a great distributor of the ball from deep-lying areas. Last season he finished with an 83% passing percentage, including nearly three accurate long balls every match.
IMO, Atlanta's got the best roster in MLS, but they've lacked something this season and it may just be they're missing what Carmona brought. Specifically, Carmona was (along with LGP) just about the only guy willing to play with some edge to his game. As Barco's discovered this year, in MLS they handle skill and speed players by simply chopping them down repeatedly like lumberjacks. I used to call Carmona the Chilean War Criminal because he was a guy you could always count on getting even. Remedi's a little guy (5'6") but I hope he has that kind of nastiness to his game because I think United may need it to reach their potential (putting Tito Villalba on the damned field and not holding him back as a sub would also help).

The winning goal was a gorgeous piece of technique. Gorgeous.

I remember Remedi being disruptive and always around the ball in our 1-0 win over Banfield, should be a good pickup though his size might be more of an issue in MLS.

I was pretty critical of Rojo being in the lineup after his horrible defensive performance in a friendly against Spain but he has been so clutch offensively, setting up the goal against Iceland and obviously his gamewinner yesterday. Last time he scored in a WC? Also a gamewinner against Nigeria. They must really be tired of facing us in the WC now, lol.

It's interesting that the color guy for United radio was on this morning and he said the same thing I did: if Remedi plays borderline dirty like Carmona could and plays the role of the enforcer, that may really help Atlanta. Barco's getting his ass kicked every game. Someone's got to do something about it.

I enjoyed Germany's loss immensely after all the smartass comments from German fans over the years and all the haters assuming Argentina would be out yesterday.

Shame Brazil couldn't join them. Maybe Mexico can take care of that.
