2 nights in, a few tboughts from me. pitt does not look very good this year so far (maybe all the postseason play is catching up with them). I can't believe philly is starting the year on a west coast trip, crazy. Winnipeg may not be as good as people thought they would be, and Toronto looked like world beaters. If anyone watched last night, drouin was unreal last night. Has a couple posts, many more incredible scoring chances, and a typical drouin assist. Anyone who got paciorety in fantasy is going to be happy. And not sure how its even a debate at who is the best player in the league at this point, mcdavid is on a different planer than crosby.

Bishop needs a better cage. First a stick, now a puck makes it through and gets him. WTF

Am I the only one laughing that Athanasiou is still not signed? I mean, you are talking a kid who scored 32 in his best AHL season and 29 in his best NHL season holding out for more money. Of all the RFA's this offseason (TJ, Drouin, Pastornak, etc.), he is the one that holds out.

Something else I read that blows my mind, the Wings are at the cap max. I mean, this is a team picked to finish last in the East by a lot of people, and really they have what, one star player in Zetterberg (maybe 2 if you count Mike Green) who really doesn't make that much ($6 mil). I thought Holland was supposed to be some great GM, but they must have HORRIBLE contracts..

Zetterberg is a $6 million hit until 2021, when he will be 41. They have $9 million in goalies. $2.5 in buyouts. With the exception of Green who is a UFA at the end of the year, they are all on the books for years.

They are years away from being able to get out of cap hell. If Holland is fired now, as much as Yzerman loves Detroit, he would have to realize that going there would not work.

I was starting to think Holland's tutelage of Yzerman consistent mostly of how not to do things...

Yzerman has some bad contracts - Callahan and probably Killorn. But he's had a lot of good ones too - Stamkos, Hedman, Kucherov, Stralman. I'd say Girardi is starting to look like a decent signing, but then I have to forget we what paid to dump 1 year of Garrison to sign Girardi for 2.

Keep on sinking past the cellar Montreal. It’s great to see them at 1-6. I hope Drouin stays the bottom of the standings with his NBC commercial comments.
