Default NHL Game Night: 2-10-19 Lightning at Panthers

Lightning pull away late in mostly empty building in Sunrise.

TB-5
FLA-2

Louis Domingue allowed 2 goals on 27 shots to record his franchise record 10th straight victory. Louis. Domingue. Right place. Right time.

First Period
4:02 TB Kucherov (23), (Hedman, Stralman)

Second Period
12:08 TB Stamkos (29), (Stralman, Miller)
13:11 FLA Vatrano (19), (Huberdeau, Matheson)
17:51 TB Callahan (6), (Joseph)
18:50 FLA Malgin (6), (Brouwer, Sheahan)

Third Period
4:25 TB Point (32), (Miller, Kucherov)(PP)
19:12 TB Kucherov (24), (Stamkos, Point)(PP)

Nikita Kucherov and Ryan Callahan were the game's first and second stars.

Lightning had good push in the First Period, really was off in the Second Period, and then took the game by the throat in the Third Period, eventually breaking it all the way open on the power play. Sunrise claims 13,566 were in attendance to see it. Disguised as open red seats.

Erik Cernak was -1 with 2 shots, 4 hits, and 3 blocked shots in 21:32.

Box score and extended statistics from NHL.com.

Those empty "Zimmerman" seats between the bluelines were 80% vacant. They are the most $$ in the house, and my guess is that they are mostly unsold. (Zimmerman is a big advertising guy down there..I'm not sure I'd want my name on all those empty seats, but so be it)

Itís genius. They know that their billboard will remain visible throughout the game because no one will be sitting in the seat and blocking their advertising from being viewed.

Then again, only out of towers will be watching on tv, but thatís another story.

In a larger sense, you are probably right. I wasn't thinking with my (old) marketing hat on. But, now in retirement, I associate it with LOSING!!

Hahahahaha.

Not a chance. Overall the arena was about 50% filled -- with a large contingent of Lightning fans. Their announced attendance was a good 3k-4k too high. Some major vacant areas in the high-priced seating and the corners of the 300 level. Mid-priced seating areas seemed to be more full.

Thats pretty much what it looked like from afar (TV). Again, it's pretty embarrassing if you ask me that the $100-$200 seats have practically nobody in them. If they choose not to go, those folks couldn't give them to friends/clients, etc etc??

Nice to know there was a good contingent of TBL fans there. I'm sure they behaved themselves.

They did. They even responded well to the Panthers goober who was taunting Lightning fans on the way out to the parking lot -- "you're all bandwagoners!" type of stuff. I mean, I give the guy some credit. To be one sole Panther fan, whose building was pretty well invaded by fans of their far more successful cross-state "rival" and to still be throwing out baseless taunts while massively outnumbered? Dude's got something in common with Alex Kharitonov.

My avatar understands that reference.
