Default Preseason Game #7: 9/29 Panthers and Lightning

If Girardi is our top line RHD we are in a lot of trouble.

If it were up to me, and let’s be clear it’s not, I would use him sparingly, you know to keep him fresh.

Look I was as upset as anyone about Giardi getting signed, and he proved me wrong last year. But putting him on as a top pair guy? With another year under his belt? Scares me.

PK is so bad, it blows my mind. Running all around, not taking players at all. What did the Panthers get, 5 shots in 7 seconds there?

Joe Smith confirms that there is smoke to keep Cernak on the team and they are trying to work out a trade of KK or Coburn.

If it's my choice, I'm trading Koekkoek out west. Some team is going to be super happy to acquire him.

Coburn can play either side on D, has some veteran leadership, and we don't have to worry about development time. His cap hit isn't great but we have cap space and he is in the last year of his deal.

Koekkoek on the other hand has Hedman and McDonagh on his side of D and they are signed long term. Lightning have Masin developing nicely behind him, very typical case of a pretty talented young player who is going to be squeezed out.

Would be thrilled with a second round pick.

If that’s the case, they better be getting another serviceable defenseman back. Going into the season with only 7 capable defensemen would not be smart.

Then again it is Joe Smith.

I'd be alright trading Koekkoek. My only worry is that Coburn has been just horrendous this preseason, and Koekkoek has been significantly better. Also, don't think Masin is ready. Showed some flashes, but I think he needs another season in the AHL.

Masin isn't ready. He should be ready next season

That would defeat the purpose of why they are open to trading Koekkoek and Coburn though would it not? Unless you mean get a veteran AHL guy back who can be called up in case of injury.
