Default Red Line on Stamkos

I finally got my Red Line today. The syrupy sweet universal praise for Stamkos drips from even Kyle Woodlief's poison pen as he brands Stamkos as Steve Yzerman's clone. "Elite, top-line centre people will pay to see."

Rated the #7 pure skater in the draft. The #1 best character and fiercest competitor. #3 most natural hockey sense. #1 best natural goal scorer.

When we first heard about Stamkos, I had no idea he was THIS great a prospect. I only knew we had to have him because folks said he'd be ready to step into a top-6 role next season. Now I am getting truly excited because he seems to be every bit the prospect Vincent Lecavalier was. Maybe even a bit better? Well, after the horrors of last season, I just thank the good lord we got him. I cannot wait to see him wear the Bolt. Stammy definitely has me re-energized as a fan.
"I just don't want the Bolts to become the Sharks."

"Bad news. The Lightning already ARE the Sharks."

From watching Stamkos' WJC games (and bear in mind this is against prospects 1-2 years his senior) there was nothing about his game that made me say, "dayyyuuuummm!" He's not like Boedker, for instance, in that Boedker nearly made me crap my pants when I saw how quickly he accelerates.

However, and this is the thing all the scouts are saying too, he does everything really well. Everything. Forecheck. Back check. Drive the net. Pass the puck. Shoot the puck. Everything. Nothing about his game said to me, "He's going to be one of the 5 best players in the game at that." but he'lll probably be in the top 15-20 players in the game at everything. E-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.

This is undoubtedly the most complete player the Tampa Bay Lightning have ever drafted, including Lecavalier (who didn't know a back check from a back scratcher when he was 18). The only flaw I caught, and this was from one or two of his games, is he missed taking a couple of long stretch passes that he would've gotten breakaways out of, and that was probably just an abberation. Other than that, he's just pretty flippin' good at everything.
