Default Picks

OK, Damien emailed me and said that we have:
a 1, 3, 5, two 6s and a 7 right now.
--
apparently we would have had two 4s, but one went for Munce and the other went to get extra picks last year.

Bare minimum, they've got to replace that 2nd rounder by the deadline.

I want a bunch.
Sometimes if you have two 3s, you can get a late No. 2 for that.
But, of course, I want to win this game.

Think Prospal could fetch a late 1st rounder?

I think so.

If (a huge if) they decide to sell and deal of Prospal AND Boyle AND Kuba/Lukowich... that's a hefty return. One that would do wonders for depth. Combine it with money in the offseason to fill some holes at the top and they could be back in the same position as they were preseason... but with a better hope of longevity attached (provided they extend Lecavalier).

Agreed. Didn't Zubrus and Nagy fetch 1st rounders last year as pending UFAs? I think Prospal's in that neighborhood.

Zubrus and Timo "Bling-Bling" Helbling got a 1st and Novotny from Buffalo.

Oleg Saprykin (and a 7th) got a 2nd from Ottawa.

Pending UFA Bill Guerin (28-19-47 at deadline) got a 1st, Sotnos' boy Ville Niemenin, and a prospect.

Dominic freaking Moore got a 3rd.

Smolinski got a 2nd (Gratton more?)

Zednik got a 2nd (32 GP, 6-12-18 at deadline).

Of course, there's Tkachuk (20-23-43 at deadline), who got a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Metropolit, and a conditional 1st.

Nagy got Mathias Tjarnqvist and a 1st.

It looks as though you could almost start with a 1st and add on with Prospal the way he's playing.

BTW...

Big George Laraque got a 3rd and a prospect (Carcillo) from Pittsburgh... I wonder if Roy is dangled. Isn't he a UFA? He could fetch a 3rd at least.

Scott Parker got a 6th.

Last year's deals

Yes, we might get more than I think.
If we resign Boyle, definitely gotta try to get a late No. 1 (Detroit?) for Vinny P.
Kuba should go if Boyle is kept. Think San Jose would give us Carle for him?
Gratton is working for a No. 2
Lukowich to NJ for a No. 3?
Roy for a No. 5?
Hlavac for a No. 4?
Janik for a No. 7?
Ward for a No. 4 or 5?
MacDonald a No. 3 or 5? (Although the way he's played, I would dangle a contract for like $600-700,000 to him)

I can't see us trading off that many bodies for just picks. All of those guys would need to be replaced with someone, and we can't very well roll out 8-10 rookies next year.

I will defer to Pete's assessment of our drafting capabilities, but even if we do pick up a ton of picks, not maybe more than one or two will help immediately. I think we need to be getting NHL ready players in some of the trades (depending on how many of our guys actually get traded, Feaster is no Dudley).
