That was funny. But I'm not so worried about next summer, but during next season. While Recchi may have it in him to play almost the entire season, I just can't see Roberts coming close. I don't think 10k a game is enough incentive to get him to play an entire season. Maybe 10 more games or something but he'll get injuried or butt hurt or whatever and will sit. That's why it'd be nice if they kept at least Joki or Ouellet for next season. Ouellet cap hit is slightly less than Jokinen's plus he seemed to have more of a scoring touch than Joki.

Jokinen's a better scorer and can play center. He was a top-6 forward for Dallas for two seasons before falling to the Stars' third line last year.

And Roberts isn't expected to put up numbers on the wing... grit, toughness, leadership in the locker room, and a role model for work ethic. We've got grit and toughness options on the lower line wings in buckets. Substitute any one of Hall, Artyukhin, or Tarnasky can bring what Roberts brings from a grit, toughness and agitation level.

Some of you are putting Recchi and Roberts in the same bucket, and then are confused as to who slots in behind them from a depth perspective for their given roles. When Roberts goes down with an injury, there are several gritting and tough characters should fill his role nicely. But they can fill his leadership and veteran presence in the locker room, teaching a young Stamkos how to prepare as a NHL player every night. That's why you need *two* graybeards, because one of those graybeards will be rehabbing for part of the season.

If Recchi's approach to the game rubs off on Stamkos, that could pay dividends down the road for Stamkos. Ouellet doesn't have much a game that could rub off on Steven.

Some folks are concerned about long-term asset management.

Can Tarnasky be sent to Norfolk without being waived?

Stammy can live with Rex now that Gratton isn't coming back.

I think they're stockpiling players so that some can be traded for further assets at the trade deadline. Some of these depth players may turn into mid round picks at the deadline next season.

Part of that is because sometimes the Stars didn't have anyone better than him. Brenden Morrow missed about half of the 06-07 season and Mike Modano missed 23 games. Jokinen played in all 82 games that season and racked up 14 goals, not counting whatever he accomplished in the end-of-game team activity, which is not inconsequential.

I've always thought Jokinen is a nice specialist to have if you can afford it, but I wouldn't pin my hopes and dreams on him producing on a big scoring line. And since the Lightning don't look to be very inclined towards playing tight, low-scoring games this year and getting into a bunch of shootouts, he has less value here than he does somewhere else.

What everyone is saying on this thread, especially in the latter pages, is making a bit of sense. At first I kept asking myself why they brought in Recchi, now I'm kind of seeing the reasonings behind the signing, albeit I'm using a coke-bottled glasses to do it.

Barrie says that the team is standing pat, but, along with probably the rest of you, I don't believe it. Even if Barrie tells the truth, this time, then there would be a stockpile of picks and players ready for the deadline. Ex.,Ryan Miller may be available, and I wonder if OK/B are looking at having those kinds of options available. Obviously, that's looking very far into the future, and since OK/B struggle with looking three days ahead (all the FA signings and the whoops, gotta trade Boyle saga) I may be giving them too much credit. Hell, I hope I am wrong since that would mean a plan is in place. I guess what I need is for faith to be reinvigorated within my being and seeing guys like Recchi getting signed initially does nothing for helping my belief.
