So can't find an answer anywhere, is it only in the Tampa area, or will we be able to view the stream in other locations?

Not on any of the cable channels but I think you can watch it on Bolt TV on the Lightning site.

Default 1st Pre-season game

I'm surprised there are so many veterans playing tonight. I thought for sure it would be mostly rookies/prospects playing with a few vets thrown in. Makes me happy though - would rather see the big guys!

They said it will only be available in Tampa Bay TV market. That's how it was with prospect tourney, I wasn't able to watch from Seattle area on the so-called "World Wide" Web. 😡 Can anyone fathom what they have to gain by blacking these games out...? I sure can't.

I don't know for sure, but I think one can make an educated guess.

The national TV rights are owned by the league and sold to NBC. If the local team distributes their product outside their local market, I'm sure that it would be a violation of the NHL's deal with NBC. It would be why Turner Sports can no longer broadcast all the Braves games on their superstation.

If I'm out of market and want to watch the Lightning telecast, I have to sign in on Fox Sports Go and give them my account with my local cable provider. So I've been able to watch games in Seattle - but someone living in Seattle can't.

There might be other streams with it online (i.e. the same places that stream regular season games).

Thanks Donnie. I think your educated guess is probably right on, and I'm sure it is all about media rights. But my question remains: Who gains from preventing me from watching this game? It's not like I can watch it on NBC, or pay-per-view it which I probably would. Seems unreasonable to me.

I'm clueless about finding unofficial live streams. I welcome any tips on that.
