I picked a bad time to go to lunch.

When I saw Halpern to LA, I was guessing we might get a 4th back.

Wow. That return was an overpayment, though Halpern will be good for LA. Especially if he plays like he did the last time he was traded.

Fla's third on top of it all? Wow.

I posted in the trade deadline thread that I would like to see Tampa make a run at Purcell. So, I'm glad he is coming here. Hopefully, JJ will be allowed to work with the youngster to help him reach his potential.

Forecaster on Purcell:

ASSETS: Has a very projectable frame and loads of offensive ability. Can score goals or set up linemates, and is equally adept at playing on either side of center.
FLAWS: Lacks game-to-game consistency. Is not a great defender and doesn't use his 6-3, 202-pound frame enough to his advantage.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Inconsistent scoring winger.

From what I've seen, I agree with that.

I think this is one of those trades that works for both teams. The 3rd alone is honestly more than I expected to see when I saw Halpern was traded and Purcell is (like someone said) low risk, high reward.

Halpern will help all the youngsters in LA and provide some punch for their bottom six.

Nice deal for Lawton.

Thanks Astro for the 4-1-1. I was picking up my kid from school when I got the message. Called my cousin about the trade and his only reply was "Good for ya! He's a Newfie! The Kings just got a whole bit better down the middle"

Meh. Halpern was great when he first got here, but to me he hasn't been the same since his injury. His vet presence may be just what they need, but they'd have to be desperate for his play to make a difference imo. A great and surprising return for him, again only imo.

I'm happy with just the 3rd. I didn't know anything about Purcell.

Purcell is a RFA this summer, but was on a one-year, one-way deal at 600k this year. So... he'll get a QO at $660k and we'll see from there. Still should be a sub-$1M contract.
