From PD:
Tampa Bay Lightning Finally, this one is rather interesting, if only because the Lightning motif offers so many chances for a home run or strike out. From Icethetics, on new home and away sweaters: "This is news to me and while I never thought Tampa Bay's jerseys were perfect, I am surprised to hear they're changing them again after just four seasons. My guess is it has to do with the new management team. So, changes all around in the Sunshine State. Frankly, I like the Reebok Edge uniforms better than what the Bolts wore previously. The blue is brighter and the stripes aren't quite so boring. If your team name is Lightning, you can really afford to not have bland sweater designs." ------------------------------------- I really like the current home and away jerseys, though they are a bit bland with nothing on the bottom. What do you think is coming? Just a logo change? Total overhaul? |

Odd to see a change so soon but the article does have a point - if everything else has been overhauled, why stop now. The new logo has grown on me (I originally thought it was much too cartoonish), though I will always be partial to the classic design.
Maybe Vinik lets the fans have a say (or at least a token say) by means of some previews and/or a vote online, even for just a third/alternate jersey? |

Here's the original post from Icethetics, whose owner/writer is a Lightning fan.

Gives me a reason to hold off on buying a Stamkos jersey, at least.

Yep. Guess I'll be waiting again. I was just about to buy one now that they don't suck any more.
![]() I say get rid of the last two remaining words on the crest and it's all good (though I have gotten used to the "Tampa Bay" on them). I personally like the all black homes and hope they don't ruin it by bringing back a lot of stripes or piping. Last edited by Hoek; 01-17-2011 at 08:42 PM. |

Why not? How will we ever have throwbacks if we forever stick with the original design (or the second design, which is really quite similar)?
Now's probably as good a time as any to take a chance on a new design. And with this, our smartest ownership/management team ever, I have faith they will do the right thing. As the guy said, there's no excuse for being bland with the name Lightning. Our logo and uniforms could be GREAT, so swing away. |

You all know how I feel. Our colors and our logo are our tradition. The jerseys of teams like the Canadiens, Bruins, Flyers, etc didn't get to be what they are by changing them to something more flashy every 10-15 years. Less is more when it comes to changes to the jersey, because it's ultimately not the jersey that sells, it's the players that wear it and the tradition they build, anyway. I want a jersey that links all the way back to Brian Bradley and Marc Bergevin up through guys like Ciccarelli and Khabibulin all the way to Stamkos.

I prefer the older jerseys, just fill in the shoulders on the black one so they're solid, leave them black on the white ones, that works ok.
