Default Steve Ludzik Battling Parkinson's

Quote:
Steve Ludzik believes hockey career led to his Parkinson’s disease

...

Last spring, Ludzik, who spent parts of nine seasons playing as a forward in the National Hockey League, mostly with the Chicago Blackhawks, revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He is 52 years old, but said he first began experiencing symptoms before his 40th birthday.

There is a slight tremor in his left hand (“I know how to hide it pretty good,” he said with a smile), but he said his other symptoms have been limited. One side effect of the 20 pills he has to take every day, though, is that he only sleeps for three or four hours a night.

He said there is no history of Parkinson’s in his family.

Not sure what can be done to prevent head trauma...even outlawing body contact altogether wouldn't do it. And the sport would never be the same again\

Best wishes to Steve & his family

I'm in the middle of reading his book "Been There Done That".

Having already battled Crohn's disease and colitis as a child, he's faced adversity before. Hope he does the best he can with this situation.
