Vinny's challenge at this stage in his career is likely going to be about playing more than 65 games. I would handicap my projections accordingly.
I agree, although on Philly he'll have more muscle around him and that might allow him to take less of a pounding.

Also, taking a Sami Salo slapshot off the foot is kind of a freak accident more than fragility.

I see Filppula as the Corey Stillman of the 2013 / 2014 bolts. A full complete player who is good on the pass, responsible defensively at both ends of the ice and a professional player.
Except when Stillman came to the Lightning he was a proven finisher in the league. You knew you were getting 20+ goals from him and he was going to help flesh out the top-2 lines. He had 5 20+ goal seasons when he came here. There was no doubt Stillman was an NHL scoring liner.

Filppula? There be doubt. As has been mentioned, Filppula's got 1 20 goal season ever. So, it's not a slam dunk he's a legitimate NHL scoring liner at all.

In the never ending quest of finding Vinny suitable linemates, Stillman was a Prospal replacement. The closest similarity to Stillman I think would be Gagne. Experienced scoring veteran who could play with VL. Flippula has the extremely tough task of attempting something nobody has tried for 15 years, be a Vinny replacement.

That was also a veteran laden team that lost in the playoffs to the eventual Cup winner. We are going to be icing a ton of youngsters after a finishing with the third worst record in the league. Different players, different teams, different circumstances. Flippula definitely isn't here to push us over the top

Stillman's stick lift on Iginla's gaping open net almost cup-winner is perhaps the single greatest play in Lightning history. Two-way play indeed.

Filppula is bringing his almost 500 NHL games to the roster is 3rd most experienced TB forward behind MSL and Malone. He's certainly here to be leader and role model for the younger players.

Yep, a clear distinction from when Stillman was being brought into a veteran laden team to just add offense. Even Vinny and Richards were pretty seasoned despite their age. Flippula is going to be filling a huge leadership hole, as opposed to pushing us over the top.
