I mean, it can't get any worse...can it?

Anyone expecting progressivism from the Papacy is barking up the wrong tree. The new Pope is apparently stridently against equality for gays and lesbians, for instance. Is that a step up from an ex-Hitler youth who did his best to muck in American politics by asking the church in the US to deny John Kerry communion over abortion during the 2004 election and who has fingerprints on the Vatican banking and pedophile scandals? Yeah, probably. I suppose the hope is that being from outside Europe he's at least a scandal-free reactionary as opposed to a scandal-tinged reactionary, and that's something.

Ideally, the best you can probably hope from a Pope right now is to keep his mouth largely shut on abortion and LGBT issues (even if he has to be on the wrong side of those issues on paper), who instead focuses on issues of social and economic fairness which all Catholics largely agree on, and who isn't crooked as the day is long or covering up for little kid diddlers.

These runners now have to face recovery in a hospital bed, barely able to move their limbs. As if recovering from a marathon isn't bad enough.

In other news today, I encourage all to boycott Regal Theatres as they have just informed all of their hourly employees that their hours will be cut to 30 hours per week so they would not have to qualify for healthcare.
