Rick DiPietro just got waived. Anyone need a goalie with the world's most expensive health insurance?

Leprosy would be an improvement for his fragile condition.

There was a sad article about his stint with a second division German team. He couldn't even hack it there, much less the NHL. Ouch.

Boy, Shanny has some problems now.

+ YouTube Video

You've got an automatic suspension for Clowe, and he is being brought in for an in-person meeting. What did he do? He went after a guy who attempted to ram his teammate's head into the boards. So, come off the bench and hold a guy accountable for trying to injure your teammate? 5+ games. Attempt to severely injure someone with a hit from behind? MAYBE a one game suspension (if you spin the wheel poorly).

I'm sincerely hoping that this is either a smokescreen or a rough draft to the prelim planned draft of the rough draft.

From the Hot Stove (print by KK)

According to Friedman, the NHL's run the following four "conferences" by every NHl team, and will present the following plan to the GM's shortly--and we will post the video of the Hotstove discussion when it's available (Paul will, I'm watching the game)...

Division A: Detroit, Boston, Buffalo, Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Toronto

Division B: Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington;

Division C: Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Winnipeg;

Division D: Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Jose.

For comparison: Last years

Nothing the NHL has done or contemplated in recent memory, including the shootout, the instigator, the serial lockouts, and the larger nets with curved goalposts, is stupider than this IMO.

No compelling or even semi-decent reason exists for trashing the east vs. west paradigm that has served the league for nearly half a century. But what about the travel!!?? Easily solved by taking a page from baseball, playing back-to-back games on consecutive nights in the same city. All together now: "DUH! Why aren't they already doing that?!!"

Dunno...because it makes too much sense? You'd build inter-squad hate among teams and among fan bases, vastly cut travel stress and costs, preserve established east-west format for playoffs & All-Star Game, and avoid ridiculous alignment of FLA and TB in the same division with TOR, MTL, OTT (and most absurdly DET...but not WSH and CAR, which are both closer and on the way north...)

Here's a hot tip for NHL brass: get busy and realign YOURSELVES for a change, so we don't have to sit through another dead winter of no hockey every time your stupid CBA expires, making you yet again the laughingstock of all sports...and quit wasting time diverting your energy to this distracting, totally unnecessary not-shit.

You're welcome, NHL. PM me for the address to send my check

Those new divisions make less sense than what exists now. That list has to be incorrect.

It makes sense if you're a patronizing Northerner/Canadian. "Oh those Florida teams need some help filling the stands, let's give them more games the snowbirds can attend!"

If that goes through...I honestly wouldn't know what to say. It's more idiotic than anything they've done so far.

Why not follow the NFL/MLB model where you have 2 conferences that are both made up of an even number of east and west teams?
