I know that not everyone here is in the Tampa area, but if you are, I suggest you avoid Stone Soup in Ybor: https://www.facebook.com/notes/jason...51165907395885

Daughters 1999 Ford Escort tranny gone and with 204000 miles we are selling car for parts. (BTW, this has been a great little car)
Trying to find a replacement in the Venice / Ft Myers / Tampa area under $5000 is absolutely horrrific. She is looking for a Honda civic Toyota Corolla later model year with higher miles...such as a 04 with 130000 miles vs a 1999 with 95000 miles. Its tough going...its going to be like winning the lotto if we find what she is looking for. I think I am going to also throw in the mix a Hyundai Elantra. I was told by a mechanic that they have come a long way as far as quality. Thoughts please! |

After searching through hundreds of vehicle ads for the last 10 days, we found an 04 Honda Civic 83000 miles under $5000 in Lee county with a couple small dents/scratches but otherwise in nice shape.

Holy Crap. My daughter's friend (whom we consider our 4th daughter), was in a car accident. No Seatbelt. 5 broken ribs, 5 cracked vertebrae, tendon damage in the shoulder. She had to be air lifted to Las Vegas hospital. They were hiking in Death Valley and driving in very remote area.
But for: Two motorcyclists who helped out (one went to an area where he got cell phone reception). A visting German (what is it with Germans and the freaking desert?) EMT. An embankment that prevented the car from rolling and rolling. A hell of a lot of luck, good karma, divine intervention or whatever, We'd have been going to her funeral... Damn. I'm so glad she's going to be okay, so I can yell at her in about a month when she gets better. Are you ready? The other two passengers walked away from the wreck, with barely a scratch... Wear you're freaking seat belt!

Ugh. Glad she made it to the hospital and had so many good people watching over her. At least that part of it feels good. I guess people who do things like hike in the desert think the danger ends when they get in their car, when that's actually statistically the most dangerous part!
Had to LOL at the Germans in the desert comment. Saw tons of them when I was out there, too. ![]()

I find it weird and disturbing that the women ALWAYS seem to know these things.

Women have different priorities than men...they are more in tune with relationships and they communicate with each other much more than men. This is my 23rd year of marriage and am still not sure how the female mind works, although I try and be a thoughtful partner.
