Dear Mr. Vinik:

I told you this time was different. I'm not coming back.

Typical Lightning Fan

P.S. When is opening night and how can I get tickets?

I'm not going to buy any tickets this season, unless perhaps if they make the playoffs.

I'm not going to buy any tickets, mainly because with my upcoming semester I won't have any free time. But I will still tune in to watch the games.

League Initial offer - July

* Under the notion of a 5% annual revenue growth rate

Player Share down to 46% from 57%

5 yr max term on new SPC's

ELC's up to 5 years vs 3yrs

Scrapped signing bonuses and no % variance on contract $'s for life of contract - fixed annual dollar amount

Redefined HRR definitions

Redefined UFA eligibility - 10 yrs accrued seasons

Salary Arbitration eliminated

PA response - August

* Under the notion of a 7%+ annual revenue growth rate

De-link salaries from HRR

No tweaks to Player contracting standards as they existed in prevous CBA (free agency, arbitration, length of term, etc)

3 yr "fixed" %'s of HRR - 54%, 52%, 52% and "option" of reverting back to pre CBA-expiration terms year 4 (57%)

Increased Rev Sharing ($200M proposed at that time)

If Revenue Growth exceeded 10% anytime, anything north of 10% would be at 57% regardless

Cap on non-player spending - i.e Coaches, Scouts, internal personnel (mgmt)

Trading/selling of Cap space (up to $4-$5M)

League Response

Immediate 51.5% share, then dwindle down by 1% yrs 2 & 3 (50.5, 49.5)

HRR to stay the same as it was in previous CBA

Cap goes down to $58M

Final (and only) say on Realignment, Expansion, Relocation, Schedules, and Playoffs

2 hr meeting regarding HRR - Sides walk away

Oct - League's New Proposal

50/50 split immediately

$200M Revenue Sharing pool - Top 10 teams account for 50% of that, other 20 combined cover the other 50%

6 year CBA, option year to make it 7

HRR to officially stay as it was

Cap to float to $70.2M in 2012-13, then down to $58M and then goes up based on growth

Elimination of Performance Bonuses applied towards lower limit

NHL contracts "stashed" in the AHL above $105K count towards Cap, not towards player share

Make Whole provision @ $200M

Trading of Contract Cap "charge"

5 yr ELC's back to 3, Arbitration stays, UFA up 1 yr to 28 yrs old, or 8 seasons accrued

5 yr contract limit - 5% variance on annual salary amount

Re-Entry waiver rule wacked

Changed "2 and 2" year windows of European player rights holding to just a 4 yr unilateral duration and player did not have to re-enter draft

All but the top 10 revenue generating franchises now eligible for Revenue Sharing (i.e eliminated the "Islander Rule") and tweaked Franchise performance requirements for Rev Sharing (local TV and marketing thresholds). Under-performing franchises will be "enhanced" by on-site assistance and counseling on how to "enhance" themselves

Joint Revenue Sharing Committee

3 tiered Supp Discipline (League, PA, 3rd party) - Appeals go to neutral 3rd party abritrator

PA's Counter

3 seperate Counter offers

1)

5 yr CBA

"Get to 50/50 in 3 yrs" - Fixed $ amounts for first 3 yrs (@ 7% growth rate), years 4 & 5 would be at 50%. Players share not to fall below year 3's amount.
50% of whatever growth generated over 5% (League's growth projection rate), in addition

2)

If Revenue growth is accelarated beyond 5-7%, 50/50 reached in a faster amount of time. In other words - 57% @ 5% GR year one, plus 24% of new HRR... 61% if north of 7% GR

3)

Increased Make Whole monies would reap immediate 50/50 split immediately. Honor existing contracts, new contracts immediately impacted by 50/50 split

Cap on Escrow and mid-season discretionary rate

Increased minimum player salary

Immediate application of No-Trade clauses in extensions

League Offer - Nov

Increase Make Whole to $211M for first 2 yrs of CBA

PA Counter

$393M Make Whole

Cap does not dip below $67M

Elimination of Recall Waivers rule after Trade Deadline

Cap count of NHL players in AHL up to $1M

Free Agency and Arbitration proposals from League "dismissed" (i.e 5 yr max)

All other pieces tentatively agreed to if League gets to $393M Make Whole

League Owners Offer (Vinik, Tannebaum, Burkle, Chipman)

$300M Make Whole

Cover Pension Shortfall

5 yr contract limit, 7 if you resign your own player

10 yr CBA, opt out at 8 yrs

PA Offer

8 yr CBA, opt out at 6 yrs
8 yr term on SPC's

League Offer 12/27

10 yr CBA, opt out at 8 yrs

$300M Make Whole

Guarantee No Rollbacks

$60M cap max 2013-14 and for remainder of CBA

1 compliance buy-out - counts against player share, not cap

6 yr contract max term, 7 if resigning own player

ELC, Arbitrations, UFA to remain unchanged from previous CBA

10% player salary variance, up from initial 5%

Weighted Draft Lottery (14 teams)

"Cap Advantage Recapture" - Exisiting contracts (6 yrs +) where player retires or unable to perform

$200M Rev Sharing

Salary Cap exception regarding Emergency Recall

Waiver Exemptions for Team's mid-season own Euro player signing

Interview period after July 1 for UFA's

Ups player Per Diem

Playoff monies increase from $6.5M to $13M in first year, additionally thru life of CBA

Work Condition Improvements

Player Health and Safety measures

Player Access to their own sites on NHL.com

Enhanced access to tickets for visiting team players and PA

* Other items previous metioned in past offers, unchanged. Basically, this was the summary of all previously agreed upon provisions and the "Final" take it or leave it proposal

PA Counter

$67M cap max 2013-14 forward

Increase in Variance % (Exact amount wasn't divulged publicly to my knowledge)

Pressure to increase max SPC term length

Thanks. I guess they did get quite a bit from the October "final" league offer.

I'll be buying as many games as I can go to. Probably will get a new shirt. I'll be throwing my money at the team like I'm making it rain. What is not supporting the team or watching the games going to accomplish?

Default Whew

This morning I refused to look at twitter to see if anything was going on, and simply said...God if my son doesn't get the Cross at least end this stupid lockout. Well my son got out touched and did not get the Cross, but thank you God for bringing some sanity to the negotiations and ending this stupid lockout.
