Barry Brust just broke Johnny Bower's AHL shutout streak record.
http://www.abbynews.com/sports/heat/news/180728691.html Brust went 268:17 without allowing a goal. Who ended it? Former Bolt Prospect James Wright. |

Wings prospect Riley Sheahan, age 20, pulled over with a .3 (!!!) BAC in Grand Rapids. He also had Brendan Smith's ID on him. Mr. I usually tries to help these guys, but this isn't his first transgression. What also sucks is that Charlie Coyle went seven picks after Riley in 2010 -- better player and not a dumb asshole like Sheahan. |

You got to be one hardcore drinkin' son of a gun to even GET to a .3 without being in a deep stupor or coma, or dead. And not even 21 yrs old. Got plenty of drinkin' time ahead of you son, what's the rush. They're not gonna make alcohol illegal again anytime soon
Booze claims its fair share of NHLers, that's for sure...the list is way too damn long...Khabibulin could be next, he's had so many DUIs they actually gave him JAIL time last year. Jail for drinking. Sleep it off, Otto! (Nothing against tossing back a few on occasion, but Yikes! Who the fuck keeps driving drunk after repeatedly getting caught and threatened with jail?!) I'm no psychotherapist, but any time partying advice from Sammy Hagar applies to you..."Gettin' high's a gas, but stayin' high? I'll pass"...you might consider seeking professional help

So... last nite, the city of Glendale AZ voted 4-2 (approved) their Arena Management Agreement (*cough* subsidy) with Greg Jamison for $324MM over 20 years. Only needs now to actually purchase the team by Jan 31 2013.
So unless challenged via referendum or a Council member burns the whole house down (with them still inside - i.e. fraud allegations aimed at the former City Mgr who brokered the deal) the Yotes are staying. I've always said that I'd hate seeing a market lose their franchise (except for one ) but, this thing could end up being worse going forward than it is right now. It's been repeatedly stated in their meetings prior to the vote, including documents, that they are currently operating with a negative balance in their General Fund and will have to layoff or "restructure" 47 jobs in the next 6 months with more rounds of cuts in the next 5 years. They also had their tax initiative "stayed" via vote under the premise that if the tax hike stayed there would be "no cuts" to services (and staff) providing that none of the extra money from the tax were applied to the Coyotes subsidy in excess of $6MM a year. People voted on this to keep it and it was divulged last nite that indeed, this tax hike was specifically structured to cushion the $6-$11MM installment fee to Jamison, and subsequently $14MM, $16MM, $17MM and remaining average of $15MM per year. Long and short of it. People got duped, Yotes fans are happy, and this is far from over. Even more damaging down the road if it completely goes through before 1/31/13.
