What would you think about Kyle Wellwood as our 3rd line center???
Might bring some good numbers but I'm not shure if he can do all the rest of the work as well?? |

Not sure if anyone has posted this or realized this, but with Paul Ranger turning 27 this year, he is now an unrestricted free agent if he ever decides to return to hockey. Not likely it seems, but a small tidbit of news perhaps.
Also, 2007 draft pick and Bolt prospect Matt Marshall graduated from Vermont this spring and the Bolts have until Aug 15th to sign him to an ELC or relinquish rights to the player. I'd imagine the chances of Marshall being signed are 0% at best. That'll pretty much close the book on the 2007 draft with Tyrell and Killorn under contract, Mitch Fadden pissing away his career, and the Bolts taking a pass on Luca Cunti, Torrie Jung, Michael Ward, and Justin Courtnall. The Bolts retain the rights to Johan Harju and that book appears to be closed, but if anyone can pull a Dmitri Afanasenkov, it would be Harju. Yes... this is the news you get in August...

Ironically... was just thinking about the 2007 draft when looking over the other drafts post lockout (2008-2012). Got to thinking about Marshall as I saw that the Solar Bears signed Simon Danis-Pepin (Black Bears) to a deal yesterday... ya know, Hockey East thing

It'll be interesting to see if Marshall signs an ECHL deal or not. He was a multiple HEAST All-Academic Team awardee, so one would think he could easily go straight into a non-hockey professional career. Injuries wiped-out his senior year of hockey, so he may have been forgotten by minor league scouts.
He has (or had) Jimmie Olvestad speed, but unfortunately he also has Jimmie Olvestad hands. It's possible with hard work, he could work himself into a bottom line AHL role. But with his academic prowess, he's probably losing money in that scenario. All depends how much he wants to play pro hockey. Some guys just use the scholarship to pay for college. Nothing wrong with that.

Jay Bouwmeester may be on the move to the Wings. Now he wouldn't look too bad in a Lightning uniform.
