Atlant has a big hole at goaltender position as both their goalies, who played last season (both were at World Championship teams rosters this spring - Konstantin Barulin for Russia and dmitry Kochnev - for Germany) left the team, so the club desperately searching for a new goalie.
It was reported that there has to be an agreement between the NHL and the Finnish Hockey Federation before Riku could come over here(or his club releases from contract), is there an agreement between Finland and Russia?

It's cute you think the Russians respect international law.

Helenius won the Urpo Ylonen Trophy as Finland's best goaltender and also made the all-league team along with Perrin.

Default Riku wants one-way two year

contract to return to Tampa.

A Finnish report upped the ante on contract demands by the Helenius' camp - saying he'd like a 2-year deal, as well as its one-way status.

I'll sign that deal IF it has a European out clause and I have the option to send him back to JYP (not the KHL, they'll potentially ruin him) if he doesn't make the Lightning out of camp. IMO, that works well, and even JYP wouldn't balk because even if JYP loses Helenius, they've already got Myllkoski, so they're not in too dire of straits.

If you held a gun to my head, my opinion is Helenius needs one more year with JYP to be ready, anyway.

It's worth it, to me, to burn a contract year (where you don't actually pay him) to have control of his developmental situation in Europe. Russia ruined Harju, and they don't know what to do with goaltenders in that country. Finland's 3,000,000% better at developing goalies.

So with that said, there's probably no hope for the big Cat Koshechkin, is there?

I think the fact Russia has passed on him recently for the WC's says something. Not that he's played poorly, but I don't feel he's been as dominant the past two seasons.

Nothing of substance but saw a new article posted on Riku and figured I would forward on. Does give a good history over the years from his entry level days to now.
