It might be the coaching, but I will blame it on the defense, it needs to be better.

The problem with Riku taking that strategy is that if he does go back to Europe, by that time he has to take a left over situation. You have to put yourself in his shoes. He's not going to get a premium gig in Europe by getting loaned back I he doesn't make the Bolts.

Probably wouldn't get an illustrious offer like ones he's probably listening to right now but I'm sure he could land a #1 job in SM-Liiga for another year at least.

An IIHF transfer deal has to be finalized with Finland before Helenius can be signed.

I wonder if the NHL/NHLPA will use the CBA as a chance to make long-term agreements with other hockey federations

Of course he will be a #1. Premium gig = good team. Left overs after Euro seasons starts = shitty team.

The problem is the KHL has no intention of playing nice with the NHL, or any other hockey federation. They have designs on creating a single, unified European mega-league that will compete with and become more prestigious than the NHL.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potenti...ague_expansion

With the KHL lurking around every corner waiting to pick off clubs from your league, other leagues have to consider whether they can afford to have their best young players siphoned off to the NHL and allow their rosters to be weakened like that. And the KHL is rumored to have been after just about every major league in European league: SM-liiga, Elitserien, Czech and Slovak Extraligas, DEL, NLA, hell, they're even trying to poach the Italian and Croatian leagues.

Helenius yesterday was in Mytischi (KHL's Atlant Mytischi) to discuss their offer. It's reported on team website (http://www.atlant-mo.ru/news/news-at...524201529.html - in Russian). Results of negotiations were not reported.

Atlant has a big hole at goaltender position as both their goalies, who played last season (both were at World Championship teams rosters this spring - Konstantin Barulin for Russia and dmitry Kochnev - for Germany) left the team, so the club desperately searching for a new goalie.

In other words, the price is being driven up if Helenius is to come to the Lightning.

I don't expect him to cross the Atlantic.
