I'm bookmarking this thread. We'll see who's in camp in Sept. I'll gladly post a pic of me eating crow if Riku is in the house.

So what do think Riku will make in FIN and what is the max contract you think Yzerman will pony to bring him over? I've got numbers in mind but curious what you are thinking.

I don't know what SM-Liiga teams really offer(getting my numbers from Eastside Manager) so I would say he make $200-400K max in Finland. I'd be fine wiyh offering him $750-950K.

They don't pay a lot, but I believe it's more than the AHL for sure.

BTW... Riku did not win the Conn Smythe over there for the playoffs. Still waiting for goaltender of the year in the SM liiga, though.

I don't think the actual size of the contract they'd have to give Helenius to come back would be huge. The kicker would be it would have to be a one-way deal, though.

From what I've gleaned, Helenius is light years further than where he was when he left North America, but he still probably needs another year or so to polish and become truly NHL ready. That's the standard he's going to have to be at to come back over: NHL ready from day one.

From what you've gleaned is capable of stepping into a tandem situation and holding his own?

Going into next season with a Garon/Helenius tandem would be suicidal for Yzerman. He needs to get a true #1 and then bring in Helenius behind them as a backup a la what Calgary and Nashville have done.
