And he returns to form on the 2nd penalty shot ever in an All-Star Game. Kinda woulda liked to see that one go in somehow, call me hopeless homer I guess
I loved the goalies taking a bit of spotlight from the shooters in the freestyle event Friday though...doing pirouettes in the crease...making the save while facing the cage, from the reflection in the glass...pretty incredible...Thomas's spin-0-rama save in the 3rd period of the game itself was right up there too
Unusually close game, too...never expected to see an 8-8 tied score late in the third...captains did an excellent job of choosing the talent evenly for an interesting game. (Malkin's goal...never seen a more ridiculously sick set of hands & feet...amazing)
EDIT: Would anybody else like to see a radar gun for the skating race, so the results would at least have
some meaning? We get nothing out of knowing a guy skated this or that course in 13.8 seconds or whatever--the hell does
that mean? I think "How fast were they going--in
miles per hour?" is the question on people's minds. And that mph number, like the mph for the hardest shot, will stand the test of time through the years, unlike than the current thing. Anyone remember the fastest skater of all time? Last year? Hardly anybody even remembers who the fastest skater was last Friday, because the number used to determine it is so meaningless. We all remember Al Iafrate, Al MacGinnis, Zdeno Chara because their mph number is easy for people to relate to. In skating, though, nobody's "the 27 mph man" or "gunning for 30 mph" like Chara gunning for 110 with the stick. Just sayin'
