Hockey world shows No Love for Conacher

I don't know if it's just me (since I followed Cory all last year in Norfolk and continue to follow him this year) but it seems like the NHL has shown no love for his as a rookie. All you hear about is Tarasenko or Yakapov and what a great start they are having, blah blah blah, but you hardly ever hear anything about Conacher who is LEADING all rookies in all catagories! Even the Hockey News can't get his name straight - their article headline says "Chris Conacher"! What does the kid have to do to get the recognition that he deserves??? :noidea: :duh:

Okay - I'm off my soapbox now!

I'm with you. It's pretty annoying how much he's overlooked. Hopefully the other guys start to fade so they have no choice but to acknowledge him. Maybe he's luckier in that he's surrounded by more talent, which makes the other guys a little more impressive, but he deserves to be in the conversation at least.

The Honey Badger takes what it wants. When it wants publicity, it will get publicity.:D

The news media is usually pretty slow on the uptake when it comes to non-traditional hockey markets. If it isn't in the NHL narrative, they have a hard time coming around on it. Yakupov was last year's #1. Tarasenko was also a first rounder, who won a gold and had a big tournament at the WJCs in 2011. They have a high profile in the Canadian hockey media. Conacher, a small guy, from Canisius, undrafted, played in the AHL, wasn't on their radar.

As Conacher continues to play well, the narrative will switch, and he'll get plenty of love. He's already speeding up the Fantasy charts.

He's flying under the radar a bit but there's no way he's not getting Calder notice. Cory's been phenomenal.

Don't hold your breath for MelGross at the Worldwide Leader to do a feature on him, and it's been a long while since most of THN wasn't a joke (looking at you, Ken Campbell and Adam "Should have picked Doughty over Stamkos) Proteau).

The only time Conacher was recognized by the Canadian Media is when Bob McKenzie picked him as his dark horse to win the Calder.

Don Cherry recently tweeted about how well he's doing and how he (Cherry) should do a feature on him on a Coach's Corner. That's at least two big Canadian names (Mac and Cherry) that a lot of people listen to. Keep this up and he'll get noticed, I have no doubt about that.

(BTW Jody, come back anytime for a soap box rant :coolwink:)

McKenzie and Cherry's names hold a lot more clout to me than 99% of the rest of those douche nozzles.

Well said. Hockey media might be a bigger joke than the journalism industry as a whole.

Cory has a lot of Marty in him.

Conacher is #2 at ESPN

Schultz is top rookie according to ESPN and Cory is a close #2. Cory is known but is still just a surprise catching approprate recognition. I'd link it but it is insider ESPN.

These two quotes can vie with each other for Post of the Month honors.

Still love Zappa's scathing indictment of what he called "the imaginary journalistic profession" focusing on rock & roll writers, though the words could apply to some hockey writers as well...

If you're in the audience and like what we do
We want you to know that we like you all too
But as for the sucker who will write the review
If his mind is prehensile
He'll put down his pencil
And have himself a squat on the cosmic utensil
Give it all you got on the cosmic utensil
Sit and spin until you rot on the cosmic utensil

(cosmic utensil = douche nozzle ?) :D
