nhl nixes Leafs-Bolts trade buyout Vinny?

would have been something that I would not have been able to grasp if I owed gratitude to the Leafs for helping us keep VL4 @ affordable salary. Nice try by SFY, but NHL steps in:

and from the same source, we are trying to trade Malone which seems like an easier thing to do than most on here envision. Even the tightwad Preds could afford Ryan since his cash outlay is only 2.5 mil. Oilers rumored.

NHL GMs: Let's have a lockout at the end of every CBA to force a new one, on our terms

NHL GMs: Then, let's have lawyers dig like pointy-faced giant anteaters for every cockamamie loophole scheme they can possibly concoct, to get around the terms of said new CBA

IMHO the sport is awesome, and everything else about it isn't

Edit to add: Owners, not GMs

It isn't the NHL GM's that held the lockout. They are paid to find those loopholes. I get your point though.

As was pointed out in another thread a buyout of Vinny may not be the best idea.

I am sure that SY and Vinik are looking at what can be done to free up some cap space, but will this be the right move. Vinny has been a fixture on this team since the age of 18. He was the #1 bright spot through all of the horrible years. He has given more to this community than any other player or owner. One has to wonder if the backlash, if there is one, will even be worth the buyout.

But I do know that if SY uses the money and can't get the job done he should be the next to go.

I have no doubt this was attempted and fully expect that they will buy out the contract.....

That has been my stand for a while.

Just noticed Andrew Ference for the Bruins will be a free agent and is probably not going to be signed by the team. The bruins need to sign Rask and the expected dollars are in the 6 - 7mil per year range.

Let the games begin - Time to turn the page on the franchise..... which missed 5 of the last six playoffs. Close get's nothing and the leader has shown the way to the bottom not the other way around.

I thought there was no truth to that rumor. I remember reading that in the tweets. Brooks started the speculation, but never confirmed it. Although the TB lightning feed said the deal was nixed by the NHL because of rumors about this deal.

Oops, meant owners, not GMs--fingers moving ahead of synapses--my mistake

If true, I admire the cleverness. :p

All good I knew what you were getting at, and I agree with the point you were making.

I'm really, really interested to know what 30 million dollars worth of compensation looks like, but I guess we might never know.
