IOW, homelessness in affluent urban centers isn't a red or blue problem. It's a function of unaffordable housing prices that transcends political ideology.

Which is why many feel that we have to secure the southern border as we can't even take care of our own.

Homelessness is very sad and something we should all try to change for those that want the help.

We had several making camp in our office commons on SR 60 in Brandon approximately 1/2 mile east of the I75 interchange. They used the outdoor electricity to charge their cell phones and were not a problem until they started taking up residence during work hours and using the landscaping as the outhouse. Cops ran them off a few times and electric outlets were secured so they have moved on.

Problem is unsolvable by telling them to move along. They just end up elsewhere living the same way.

Rush Limbaugh: Biden's best friend bracelet picture 'pathetic'

'..."It’s not even desperation. It’s pathetic... he desperately wants Obama’s endorsement, and Obama laughed. So Biden’s trying to make it look like Obama’s his friend, he’s my friend, I like Joe, Joe likes me, I like Barack, and Barack likes me," Limbaugh told a caller on his radio show.

"You know, these friendship bracelets, these things are made by 7- and 8-year-old girls. That’s who makes them and wears them." ...'

Said the man who wants to snatch food stamps and free school lunches away from poor children...

Five years ago Think Progress did a story pointing out the US government could’ve given a $600K house to every homeless family in America with the money they wasted on the F-35 fighter program... which has been a boondoggle that’s only been kept alive as pork for the districts where the jet’s parts are made.

The problem is not a lack of wealth. Or resources. It’s priorities.

Texas cop buys groceries for family after finding young boy alone 'getting snacks for younger sibling'

'...After approaching the boy, Riley learned that he went to the corner store alone because he was “getting snacks for a younger sibling.” Police said that Riley drove the young boy home, “concerned for the child’s safety.”

After arriving at the residence, Riley observed that the family appeared to be “going through difficult financial times.”

That’s when police said he went to a popular Texas supermarket and purchased groceries for the family using his own money. ...'

Battle erupts over NYT report calling Mexico immigration pact a mirage

Battle erupts over NYT report calling Mexico immigration pact a mirage

'...The debate follows President Trump's move to threaten crushing tariffs against Mexico, only to back off late Friday claiming he had extracted an agreement with the country to confront the flow of migrants from Central America. The New York Times, in a report Trump continues to slam, swiftly challenged the administration's narrative by claiming parts of the agreement were already in the works before the tariff drama.

But The Washington Post on Tuesday published a separate report, citing Trump administration and Mexican officials as well as documents, giving a different perspective. The Post called Mexico’s promises “unprecedented” and the measures “more substantial” than promises made by Mexican officials in the past. ...'

DHS chief reveals startling stat on asylum seekers who skip hearings, disappear

'...“Out of those 7,000 cases, 90 received final orders of removal in absentia, 90 percent,” he said.

“90 percent did not show up?” Graham asked.:jaw:

“Correct, that is a recent sample from families crossing the border,” McAleenan clarified. ...

He also said the restrictions on how long family units can be held mean that a child is now seen as a passport to the U.S. -- a perception he said is based in reality. He testified that only 30 percent of those coming to the border are actually trying to avoid being captured.

“Unless you’re a single adult, it is very unlikely you’ll be repatriated,” he said.:wow:

McAleenan urged Congress to act to end those loopholes and to grant requested DHS funding, and suggested that moves to make asylum seekers claim asylum in their home countries or designated third-countries could help solve the crisis. ...':questions:

90% is an old number that was never true

Quote:

Over a five-year period through the end of September 2017, the records show 23 percent of undocumented migrants released in the U.S. didn’t show up to legal hearings. Of the 665,930 immigrants who were released,151,492 were no-shows.

Not all of these people sought asylum. Some were unaccompanied children who came to the border, and others were migrants seeking to join family members already in the U.S. And many of the no-shows were people who were detained at the border and then released in the U.S. because three weeks later because severely strained immigration courts couldn't get to their cases.

Those seeking asylums - also called asylees - have been the most cooperative group; 11 percent of them didn’t go to their hearings in fiscal 2017. DOJ records show that 43,013 people seeking asylum had court hearings scheduled in 2017, and 4,776 didn’t show up,

Goodlatte’s office has cited an article in Newsmax, a conservative online publication, as the source of the four-year-old "anecdotal" statement. The article referred to an anonymous "senior Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective who routinely deals with illegal immigrants" and said "a massive number — 80 to 90 percent" don’t show up for deportation hearings.
