Then happened to stumble upon this

NCAA can go jump in the lake with this nonsense...how is it an insult to name your team after this or that group? It's about the biggest compliment you can possibly pay. The general, if not unanimous, feeling among the various American Indian groups, as expressed by their leaders, reflects this honor; the great majority of them do NOT want their names erased from the college teams. Some have said they like how it keeps their name, and hence part of their heritage and history, on the lips and in the minds of modern people. (They also don't mind being called American Indians, just for the record).

Centuries ago tribes occupying this land did fight. The "fighting" Sioux were among them, and they're not ashamed of the fact. Being a brave warrior was seen as an essential attribute. So IMHO using this name is in no way denigrating the Sioux or putting them down.

Bravo UND - go green

Totally agreed. Unless a specific tribe decides that they do not like the way their name is being used, entities should be able to use their names, IMO.

The way I understand it, UND does have the consent of a majority of the councils. Problem is they do not have the consent from a few that, according to them, have the final say alledgedly. It comes down to which Tribal Council(s) have the authority and it's been a long, contentious circumstance between all of them as to who truly represents the interests of the Sioux.

I'll find the article later and post it, if anyone is interested.

Too bad they're not as big as FSU. Then they could just pay off all of the tribes.

They haven't paid off all the tribes. If they did, all of the Oklahoma Seminoles would be on board. Some still aren't. The relationship between FSU and the FL Seminole Tribal Council goes beyond money. They (FSU) do a lot more than just using a logo.

Re: O'Donnell... They weren't sure for a while. An announcement was supposed to come a couple weeks ago. I'm surprised it took them this long to decide on surgery.
