I'm sure most of you have heard that he had an accident, but it's amazing how lucky he was, it could've been a lot worse. Scary stuff.

Thank you for that link. Had not heard about this until now.
Pat is a great guy, I wish him a speedy recovery. In the last couple of years he has used the Lightning seats and has sat next to me. You think you know a little about the game and then you sit next to him. He loves to point out what is about to happen and what the players are attempting to do.

Scary stuff. Good favor was upon him though, and he was saved by the anonymous nurse.
Glad to hear he's alright and will fully recover. Had no idea it was that bad of accident! That's scary as hell..

The waves that weekend were 8-10 ft, even at Sunset Beach... I bodysurfed for awhile but, honestly, they were breaking too steeply and I got slammed bad a couple of times, so I quit. About 30 minutes later a guy got really whacked by his full size board..He was chest deep and was just flailing..As my buddy and I waded out to him, he didn't take a breath for about 20 seconds...
We pulled him out, got him to the beach, and got him breathing...Called Rescue and they were there in about 10 minutes..Guy got hit so hard he didn't even know his name....Didn't know he'd been surfing...didn't know where he lived...Talk about severe concussion...whew..I don't think he had any spinal injuries but his head was bleeding badly from the hit as well as getting slammed to the bottom..
I will never forget the look on his face as he was underwater, with his eyes open, and we got him a breath. He was 30 seconds or less away from death..
Moral, if you're not an experienced surfer, you can get in BIG trouble with that size surf....
