To the hockey players out there,

I've been playing ice hockey for roughly 9 months now and am ready to move on from my start-up skates and into something better. I currently wear the Bauer Supreme One05 skates and while they're alright, I'm not sure I'm getting the most out of them.

Here are the details: I wear a size 11D, but I don't know if I'm on the wide side of D. I tend to have the top and bottom part of my skate laced up tightly, with middle being pretty loose, and because of that I start having problems with lace bite as the game goes on. I usually play D, and therefore will get in the way (not skilled enough to say I block) of shots and have taken a few on the top of the foot; couple that with the lace bite, and I think I need a skate with a tougher tongue.

I'd like to stay around the $200 price range. There aren't any places in my area that carry skates my size, so rather than go to the stores and order like 8 or so different pairs to try on, I'm stopping by here to narrow that down. Out of the small selection of skates I've been able to see in person, the Vapor X:30s (love the idea of the hard plastic in the tongue) and Supreme One60s have been the ones closest to what I'm looking for, but obviously I'm still hesitant on buying one of those models. My question, which one of those two would you recommend? OR, is there another skate/brand that you can recommend that would meet my needs better?

Thanks everyone and any advice you have to give will be appreciated.

It's been 15 years + since I've laced them up but I always skated in Tacs... But I don't even think CCM makes them anymore!
