HAPPY FOURTH Everyone! Hope everyone has a more interesting one then me. I'm stuck here on base until 730am tomorrow! And the base is closed today! So I'm the only guy here! Guess I'll just hang out on this silly forum all day! :p Guess the most interesting thing I can wait for is the Dan Boyle situation...

Be careful everyone and drive safe...don't blow off a finger with those poppers.

Hope you get to enjoy your new house over the holiday weekend, Jaydeedub. Happy 4th to all! (at least as happy as it can be as the Boyler fan bases bites its nails).

It's a NAS--Naval Air Station. Get it right mon! It should be alright...the Air Ops building was made in the 40's so it's a little creepy in here. My wife is coming tonight and we'll go up in the tower to watch the fireworks of downtown Jax. Should be alright.

Happy 4th all.
If you get a chance watch the HBO special John Adams. Pretty cool and it ties in great with the 4th!!

this is the day that the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress in 1776. We announced our freedom as an independent nation and declared that we were no longer colonies. The words in the Declaration have served as a goal for us ever since. We celebrate that we have the right and responsibility to act in a civilized manner or not as the case may be and say what we want and be what we want. You have choices and a free public education system that continues to produce well educated individuals to continue to protect our rights and liberties. To all those on the front lines THANK YOU VERY MUCH. To all of us who continue to watch and protect our liberties and freedoms: Thank you very much for keeping the contract with all of your fellow citizens---by the way that also means everyone on this Board: Quis Custodiet Quis Custodiet.

Hahaha!!! It's the day we said, "Enough! Time to kick the Brits asses!!!" :coolwink:

Then we did it all over again in 1812!! :D

But as my British buddies from NATO would tell me, they "allowed" us to win. They were too busy with France or something like that.

It's the 4th of July. Not sure I would call it "happy" since I do not see very much in the current America worth celebrating.

There's always hope.

And in exactly four months, hopefully there's more to celebrate.

Celebrated it yesterday with a trip up to Columbus for their big fireworks show and street festivals. Was in to work at 6 AM this morning. OUCH. :duh:

What a time that must have been. To create a country. How many chances do you have to pull that one off? Would love to have been a fly on the wall for that debate.

The Channelside fireworks were nice.

So many rude people out, though. I mean, I know a guy with a clipboard registering people to vote may be annoying if you're steamrolling to the beer line but sheesh, it wasn't like I was threatening to kill your children.

Because really, what's more important in America... getting hammered drunk, or voting? :duh:

See I figured since we were working the area from 6-8, not many people would be too blitzed. I underestimated the draw of booze.

Mostly they were just sneering assholes who wouldn't even have the decency to respond or look you in the face...and that's not even counting the ones who tried to start fights with us.

Screw 'em.

I don't want their drunken, ignorant, bigotted asses voting anyway.

I could not believe the number of professional type fireworks being shot from backyards in the neighborhood I live in (Ehrlich & Veterans Expressway) and adjoining neighborhoods. I thought everyone is supposedly broke due to the price of gas. A guy a block away must have spent at least $500 on his not so little display that went on for at least an hour.

Consider that Channelside is usually over run with 20 somethings just looking to get laid. They probably won't vote anyway, just too much trouble and there is nowhere to vote at the mall or a bar. Even if they are not drunk, ignorant, or bigoted, they are apathetic.

Appreciate the pigeon-holing of us 20-somethings that like to go and hang out at Channelside on the weekends. Quality post.

Hahah. Sorry to hear that dude. That sucks. And they'll be the same very people who bitch and complain about this or that with the government; then you ask: "Do you vote?"
"NO!"
"Why not?"
"Why waste my time?"

I get this all the time at work. I'm the Voting Rep here and it's like pulling teeth to get people to register to vote. I get it from all kinds of people too. Not just the young, but even some of the older senior guys. I just gave up. I'll wait till my boss bitches to me about it again to try again.

No problem. Just call them like I see them. My daughter is a 26yo UF grad with a Masters (she is a Physician Assistant) so my judgment is first hand based upon her friends I have known for years, her new co-workers (MDs, PAs, and ARNPs primarily) and her room mates from UF since 2000. They are more interested in what's new at the mall than politics. If you fall outside of the group, my congratulations.

Channelside only really got going after I left Tampa, but if it's anything like downtown Fort Worth, or the Uptown part of Dallas, Flycoon has this one pegged. I'd say about 80-90% of the people in their 20s in those places are only interested in fashion, being cool, hooking up, and being seen in public.
