Someone who knows their way around the CBA remind me of the rules about buying out a player's contract.
Thanks!

2/3's of the remaining salary (1/3 if player is under 26yo) paid out over 2x the remaining number of years on the contract.

Obviously you're talking about Denis. By my calculations it would cost the Bolts 1 mil a year for 2 years against the cap. Denis is scheduled to get 3 mil next season. That's where I got the 2 mil figure from. He has one year left on his contract so that's where I got the 2 from.

The following is from the NHL CBA:
If the Club elects to terminate this SPC pursuant to this Paragraph 13, it shall be obligated to pay to the Player, in equal semi-monthly installments, to be paid in accordance with the payroll payment schedule applicable to the Club's Active Roster, over twice the remaining term of the SPC (the "Buy-Out Period"):
(i) if the Player is under 26 years of age at the time the termination is effective, an amount equal to 1/3 of, or
(ii) if the Player is 26 years of age or older at the time the termination is effective, an amount equal to 2/3 of the total fixed amount of the Player's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary, for the unexpired fixed-term of this SPC, reduced by any advance payment of Paragraph 1 Salary received by the Player prior to the date the termination is effective.

Thanks... my question is not so much about Denis as there are rumblings in the NAS press that the Predators are considering buying out Chris Mason's 2yr, $6M contract extension that was given to him before he played a single game as the #1 after Vokoun's departure.
