I do actually have a thought about this one...
Game 1 is on at the same time as Habs/Flyers. Boo
That's why I have two tv's in my entertainment center. True, if I put them both together they're probably not near as big as most of the posters tvs here, but it serves its purpose.
Where's Claude Lemieux when you need him?
Like Tex in the other thread, I thought Detroit shouldn't have struggled with the Vernon Fiddlers and on top of that, I thought Colorado's collapsing own-zone coverage late in the Minny series was exceptional. Especially Game 6.
Of course, unlike Minnesota, Detroit actually gives a rip about scoring.
I'm looking forward to this one.

Like I said in the other thread, this won't be a series until there's a bench thrown out on the ice.

You make me weep. I have a 52" Sony Bravia LCD but CI is not available on Verizon FIOS; the split screen is magnifico. I get Versus analog mush.

If the first game was any indication, this is setting up to be a hell of a series.

Agreed.
Chris Osgood is the Energizer Bunny...that guy has had the most unheralded 363 wins ever.

It's driving me CRAZY that the Wings keep playing against teams with arguably their best players out of the lineup. The last three games it was Arnott for Nashville, and tonight Forsberg was out and then Wolski got hurt.
Plus Theodore was sick. I'd love for him to blame it all on cold medication like Ed Belfour did back in the day when he gave up 7 against the Devils in a Finals game.

Avs without Forsberg again. Add Wolski to the list of not playing.
Any comeback is negated by the revolving door to the penalty box.
i hate the wings.

I HATE them too. The Avs just have too many big guns off the ice right now... even thought my tee-shirt says, "life is good", right now hockeywise, LIFE SUCKS.....
I think there has to be some thought of starting Budaj in game 3.

Well, they just got one back. Only 17 minutes to get three more!
Jose Theodore is awesome in first rounds....not so much in 2nd rounds.

Colorado looks lost without "savior Forsberg" out there. I wonder if he's changed the atmosphere for the worse?

Nice of the Detroit fans to chant "Oz-zy! Oz-zy!" for their goalie. Such a great show of support. OH WAIT THEY RAN HIM OUT OF TOWN ON A RAIL A FEW YEARS AGO.
Also, my buddy reports they were singing "Sweet Caroline" in the stands in the third period, while the puck was in play. If the whole Ottawa centurion thing was the gayest thing ever in a playoff game, then that has to come in second.
I dunno, speaking as someone who is probably the most qualified person here to make that judgment, I'd have to say Richards admitting he  St. Louis in Game 6 of the SC finals has got to be way, way up there above anything else.

Well, didn't Mike Smith kiss someone this year too?
LOL yeah.. I guess it's not that out there. Certainly isn't in soccer..
Spread the love, but hopefully not the mono! That was definitely one of the weirder things in the lead up to the whole Richards endgame.

Yeah things are looking pretty bleak for us right about now. I know that injuries are part of the game and every team has to deal with them but they really are killing the Avs right now. Forsberg comes back, not at 100% but they lose Ryan Smyth to a foot injury & Paul Stastny to a knee injury. Also apparently Theodore was sick during the 1st 2 games in Detroit. Add to that far too many bone headed penalties and you get a team that is down 3 games.
Not the mention that the other team is pretty talented. GOD that hurt to type.

It's killing me that the Wings keep playing games where the other team has some of their best players out of the lineup. It's not like the Avs are missing Ian Laperriere or someone they could easily replace. Forsberg, Smyth, Stastny, and Wolski have all missed time in this series.
It doesn't help the ex-Nords too much that Theo is playing like he is, either. If he would have played like this in the Minny series, there's no way COL would have moved on.
Hopefully Game 4 isn't Sakic's last game.

And Hannan on the back line. I think this team is also misses Svatos in a big way. I think there has to be some thought to starting Budaj tomorrow night. He was looked like the better goalie in this series... but I said the same thing before game 3 too...
Theo could be losing some serious FA dollars with his performance. After the Wild series he had a fat check coming his way.

Detroit was without Kronwall and Schneider last year against Anaheim so I don't think they're shedding tears over the Avs injuries..Babcock didn't say those exact words when they showed his press conference on NHLN but they're benefiting from what hurt them last year. Colorado knew the risk they were taking in acquiring players like Forsberg and Smyth who are prone to missing time. Who didn't think Forsberg would miss playoff games?

From NHL.com:
Joel Quenneville said Wednesday that leading scorer Paul Stastny is probably out for the rest of the series with a knee injury, and that Ryan Smyth is doubtful for Thursday night due to a foot ailment.
Peter Forsberg also was checked out by the medical staff Wednesday. He's missed two of the three games with a groin injury, and wasn't his usual dominant self in Game 3.
"Hopefully, everything will be all right for him," Quenneville said
I have the feeling it's gonna be a long night Avs fans....

Theodore - 16 goals allowed in 3 1/3 games. That's a nice 4.80 GAA. It doesn't matter how many guys the Avs had out of the lineup, they wouldn't have beaten the Wings anyway with that kind of goaltending.
John Grahame just called to say Theodore played bad.
Zetterberg is unreal, what a goal. Avs look like a beaten team right now. Their defense has been picked apart this series and Theo hasn't helped much.

Christ .. as bad as the Avs look right now, the absolute clinic the Wings are putting on is only making them look worse.
I think that's goal number 32 for Franzen in this series.
7-1 Wings, Franzen with another hat trick. This is just sad. Avs shouldn't even bother coming out for the 3rd.

Is now a good time to go on a Tomas Holmstrom rant? I really hate that guy. His only skills are putting his big fat ass right in front of the goalie, hacking them with his stick like he's trying to cut down a tree, and getting credit for goals that bounce off him and go in the net.

Darren McCarty probably had 10 minutes of ice time in the third period (he's averaged about 5 a game thus far).

I'm stunned at how uncompetitive the Avs ended up being in this series. 21 goals allowed in four games. I can't see how Dallas would be any worse than Colorado, but I also can't see how they're going to win that series.

Amen. Hearing the gushing about how good he is makes me sick.
Any time is a good time for an anti-Holmstrom rant. I agree completely.
That was about as unexciting a series as you'll see.
Avs spent a lot at the deadline for a second round playoff appearance.

Heh, that was a fun game, for the time. Didn't you get to pick a total of 3 players, from 3 size-categories?
I liked Blades of Steel a lot better though.

Yeah, you picked four players and you could choose any arrangement you wanted. There were little skinny guys who skated real fast but would lose almost every puck battle. Then there were medium guys who looked suspiciously like Mario. Then there were the big lumbering guys that would-be checkers would bounce off of like Nerf darts.
I liked Blades of Steel a lot better though.
Me too. It wasn't as fast but the game was smoother and there weren't the complete meltdowns you could suffer in Ice Hockey. On the downside, I still suck at fighting.

And you know what else I hate about Detroit? They're incredibly bland. It's like rooting for Deep Blue. They show up and play and they don't have any sort of personality or mean streak or anything that would help a casual or semi-casual fan latch on to them.
