Comcast taking majority stake in NBC Universal (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091203/bs_afp/uscompanymergermediaindustrygecomcastnbc_200912031 80620)

Wonder what this means for the NHL? Deeper ties into Versus and NBC now that they're both owned by the same company? :noidea:

I might be wrong. but isn't Comcast owned by Ed Snider who is a Huge Right wing supporter?

What could this mean to the left-leaning programming?

I think that the Justice Department has to approve this deal and that may take sometime.

Oh ok, I read the link and found this.

"It is imperative that the (Federal Communications Commission), the Justice Department, and the (Federal Trade Commission) rigorously assess whether this transaction is in the public interest."

That is three hurtles they have to get over and they say it may take up to 2 years.

I am praying that it is a go and that GE uses the money to help GE Capital.......and then they can dump that financial nightmare.

As a former GE employee from 2000-2004, I can assure you 9/11 was absolutely disastrous financially for GE Capital. GE Capital was the primary re-insurer for both Trade Towers and for 2 of the 4 American Airlines hijacked planes that were crashed on that day. [A re-insurer is an entity that insures insurance companies]

By early 2002, GE had sold off the GE business that I worked for to private buyers for $600M+ just to raise some cash. GE Capital has spent the entire decade trying to recover. It'll probably take another decade.
