What if the sale of the team does not go through and ownership remains the same through the off season?

Does the team drop to minimum team salary permitted? This might be the conventional wisdom but could this break the back of the fan base and lead to more of a decrease in revenue than the decrease in expenditures?

If the team payroll stays the same can the team be competitive? If the answer is no then why keep payroll level? The ownership may conclude that decreased revenues are a certainty either way and go for minimum salary. If the answer is yes than it may be in ownership's interest to keep payroll level or even increase if the team is not thought to be far from competing again.

Thoughts?

I don't think so, because for all their faults, the current ownership is at least smart enough to know that if they dump all the high payed guys, the franchise loses value. I think they would rather shoulder the financial burden for a short time while they found a new buyer than lose a large chunk of the potential sale price.

The floor for next season is almost at the level we spent this season, so it wouldn't really be that much of a cut in spending. We still have to sign some free agents in order to make the floor.
