here's today's math lesson....

boyle + 35(games) = -25(plus/minus)

Now solve for boyle

Are you ready for the answer?

boyle = +$6 Million

....and worth every penny

Why is no one talking about Lecavalier's -17 or MSL -21? These two haven't played defense since December.

Because it's easier to make a scapegoat of the guy who just signed the most recent big contract? That's my guess. I think it's fair to criticize him for his lack of defensive prowess since his return but I don't think it's fair to automatically say the contract is a bust without seeing how things turn out next year, especially considering the state of the team right now being half AHL.

I dunno. I know that I'm not really upset about the +/- of anyone on the team because they're all bad, outside of Ouellet and Lundin.

Hmm. And Briere is -22 for the Cryers, Comrie -21 for the Isles. Wonder if they're taking similar hits on their fan boards?

Maybe it is because he has more turnovers than a pastry shop, and plays less D than Vinny or Marty.

Maybe next season he will mix in some Defence.:noidea:

OB not playing well enough in Torts' eyes. I agree with half of that conclusion.
Kuba - Buffalo would be perfect!!!!!
Luk to Jersey.

Hey, I'm an OB fan. But if they are thinking he will not be a good learner and they are hell bent on trading him, someone may give us a young top-9 forward possibility for him.

Vinny's been hurt and avoiding contact.

Boyle is -25 in 35 games. In a full season that would be a -59.

Remind me - how many years do we have left until Boyle's contract is up ?

And in case it's edited out, the version I'm currently looking at has this gem at the end of it -

He is the greatest hockey player ever

i think boyle is signed up until his 49th birthday... or atleast thats when his 'limited no trade clause' kicks in....

either way..... with the minutes torts gives boyle... and the way boyle likes to run and gun - I think his wheels will fall off way before his contract is up

boyle was a "team player" & took less than fair market value last time around, so at least part of this contract is payoff for being underpaid. same reason marty got what he did. for years we paid kubina more than boyle while he played a lot less.

you expect a guy to play a half hour per game, you have to pay him.

i know you have to pay him if your telling him he has to play +30 a game.

For me..... Personally.... I dont think ANY player should be playing thirty plus a game

When you're playing for a bad team that gives up lots of goals in general and you're out there for half the game, of course you're going to collect a lot of minuses.

Meanwhile he does have 24 points in 35 games (almost as many as Ranger and Kuba have in TWICE as many games), but who cares about his offensive stats right? That's not what we're paying for.. oh wait it is..

Honestly what's with all the raging across Lightning Nation over the most irrelevant stat in the game accumulated during the most meaningless games of a lost season? Boyle's been through a lot this year. He deserves a bit a of a reprieve and a chance to start with a clean slate before we start burning him and his big contract at the stake.

I'm not trying to diminish all criticism of his play as he has been making mistakes and playing poor defensively. But cmon, put down the torches and pitchforks..

Not at all...

I actually like the style and energy Boyle brings - just not all of his decisions

I was just having a little fun...

We have to have something to talk about, right?....

Though, no I do not agree with his new contract - price or yrs....

And

Even though boyle is paid for his offense he is a dmen first, not a forward, and therefore, defense should be his top priority...

To be paid as a top tier dmen you should be one of the top dmen at both ends of the ice

...and yes, for everyone who was wondering, I do know D Boyles new contract start next yr

It's not like Boyle's defensive shortcomings are new... he's always been like this. Doesn't seem as though anyone's actually surprised...
